Alli, Greyson, Cody, Maize and I all got to my house in a little under twenty minutes. I thanked Greyson’s mom for driving us home, then got out of the car. I don’t think anybody except Maize expected my house to be so big, because as soon as they got out of the car they just stood there looking at it. Maize and I had walked up the steps to the front door before we realized they hadn’t moved. “Guys are you coming?”
They slowly made their way up the steps. I unlocked the door and motioned everybody inside. Greyson was the first one to say something. “So what exactly do your parents do?”
“My mom’s a lawyer. My dad’s a doctor.”
“That’s, um, interesting.” Alli chimed in.
“Are you guys hungry?” I asked.
They all nodded and we walked into the kitchen. I walked over to the refrigerator and found a note on it. It said, “Concert w/Maize tom. at 6”
“Greyson! Your concert last night! You skipped it!”
He looked at me with a confused expression. “The concert was postponed. Didn’t Maize tell you?”
I looked over at Maize. She smiled. “Were you going to tell me…?"
She shrugged. “I figured you knew.”
I smiled and shook my head. I opened the fridge and got out a carton of eggs then went to the pantry and got the pancake mix out. “Eggs and pancakes?” I asked. Everybody nodded. “You guys can go watch TV in the living room. Maize knows how to work it. There’s also my room and the guest room and, well you can explore the house to find a TV. This place is huge.”
“Can I go take a shower? I feel gross. I brought clothes and stuff. I just need a towel.”
I nodded. “Of course you can. Maize, could you show her where the bathroom is?”
She nodded then slowly smiled. “Which one?”
“Alli, do you want to take one upstairs or downstairs?”
“Um, upstairs?”
I looked at Maize. “Mine.”
“Okie doke!”
Maize, Alli and Cody all walked out of the kitchen. Cody went to the living room and turned on the TV, and Maize took Alli upstairs. Greyson sat down at the counter and I started the eggs. “I don’t think I’ve ever made eggs before.” Greyson laughed and jumped up and walked over to me.
“Did you spray the pan?”
“Spray it with what?”
“The oil spray stuff.”
“Would it be bad if I said no?”
He laughed. “Kind of. You’ve got to start over.”
“Of course I do.” After we got the pan cleaned from the mess, we sprayed the pan with ‘the oil spray stuff’ and continued making breakfast. We had almost all of the eggs cooked and were starting to make the pancakes when my phone started ringing. “Grey, could you finish these?”
He nodded. I grabbed my phone and answered it without looking at the contact. “Hello?”
“Hey, sweetie. It’s me, Mom.”
“Oh, hey, I thought you were supposed to be home at twelve. It’s already twelve thirty. Where are you?”
She sighed. “They delayed my flight until tomorrow. Your dad just called me though. He said he had to fly to New York for some surgery. Are you okay for one more night? Maria will be there so you won’t be alone.”
