Illya's Pov
"This case is sad," I said to Gaby as we exited the home.
"Yes," she said, "it is."
We walked around behind the house in the garden. It was beautiful garden with plants and vegetables. We found a concrete bench sitting under an apple tree. We sat down on it.
"I wonder where Napoleon is," I said.
"Maybe he's still talking to her," Gaby said.
"Gosh I hope he doesn't mess around with her," I said, "it will ruin the case."
"Don't worry about him," Gaby said placing her hand on top of hers, "he usually knows what he's doing..."
"Alright lovebirds," I heard a voice say.
I turned to see Napoleon walking towards us.
"What did you find out?" I asked him.
"She just gave me pictures of them and wrote out their backgrounds," he replied handing me papers with pictures of men on it. I read through the papers.
"She was hesitant to talk at first," Napoleon said, "but finally she talked...we would have gotten nowhere if she hadn't of said this."
"But does this paper even get us anywhere?" I asked.
"Well sure," Napoleon replied, "we known the names of the men."
"The police already knew that," I said, "they've already arrested them."
"Then I guess we're in a bit of a pickle," Napoleon replied, "well what did you lovebirds find?"
"Not much," I replied, "that Lucas man just showed us around the home and talked about the suspects."
"Well I did find something," Napoleon said, "and it's something. Shannon claimed that one of the men, his name was Willard. He tried to uh...let's just say violate her...space. He failed at the attempt and she thinks that he did it."
"It could be a possibility," I said, "but just because of what he has done in the past doesn't mean he was the one who shot her father...but they are all getting arrested anyways for taking money. We just need to find out who killed her father."
"Have there been no clues left around the house?" Napoleon asked.
"No," Gaby said, "but I have an idea. We could around town and ask people about them and maybe find some evidence."
"That is good idea," I said, "we should try it."
"We could take that Shannon girl with us," Napoleon said, "she should know her way around town right?"
"Sure," I said, "I will ask Lucas to go fetch her."
We walked around town and went into different shops and asked the workers questions. The part of town Shannon lived in, everyone knew everyone. So there was no doubt we would figure out this murder.
"Is there anywhere good to eat, Shannon?" Napoleon asked.
"No," Shannon replied, "we all starve."
"Haha," Napoleon said, "funny."
"There's a restaurant a little on down," she said, "it's pretty good."
"It better be," Napoleon said, "I'm starving."
We came upon a small restaurant with wonderful smells coming from inside.
We were seated at a table and ordered drinks.
"So you think Willard was the on who killed your father?" I asked Shannon.
"I am sure of it," Shannon replied.
"Do you think there would be any possibility someone other than Willard did it?" Napoleon asked. "Could there be any evidence leading to a different killer? We haven't yet comforted that it was him...so we need evidence for everyone."
"Well what if it was neither of them?" Shannon asked.
"Is that possible?" I asked.
"Probably not," Shannon said, "just a thought...no...it is possible...we need to get out of here."
Shannon's face had turned completely red and she was sweating uncontrollably. She stood up and walked out the door. Gaby, Napoleon, and I stood up and followed her. We walked all the way back to her home and to the room her father was killed in.
She walked over to a wall and got on her knees. We all got on our knees as well.
She dug her nails into the carpeting and ripped the carpeting up. Underneath the carpet was a key. She picked up the key and ran her fingers along the wooden wall. Her hand stopped moving. She then bent her fingers and opened a small pocket in the wall with a key hole in it.
"Dear god," Napoleon said with an amazed tone.
She placed the key into the hole and turned it and a door half the size of the wall opened. We all stood up. Through the door was a small compartment that could fit about two people inside of it.
"This could be evidence that someone else killed my father," Shannon said stepping into the compartment, "come Napoleon."
Napoleon stepped in beside her and she closed the door. Suddenly the top half part of the door opened up. Only their faces were shown.
"I don't get it," Napoleon said.
"Someone could have hid in here," Shannon said, "and killed my father...this would be a reasonable doubt in this case since this is an investigation."
"You know your stuff," Gaby said, "who do you think would have hid in here?"
"I don't know," Shannon replied, "my father and I would hide the key in a different spot every month. We were the only ones who knew where it was."
"Is there anyone else who would was to intentionally harm your father?" Napoleon asked.
"Probably lots," Shannon said, "he was a time man but sometimes not very nice...mostly to our maid."
"Had she ever thought about harming or killing your father?" I asked.
"She threw a plate at him once," she said, "don't know why he didn't fire her...Anyways, she could have found the key and hid in here and killed my father..."
"How would she know where the key was?" Napoleon asked.
"Maybe she found another way in," Shannon replied.
"How is that?" Asked Gaby.
"There are many hidden passageways in this house," Shannon replied, "and many lead to different hidden rooms...but this is the only key that opens all of the doors..."
"Do you know where the other doors are?" I asked.
"I only know this one," Shannon replied, "and father would never let me go beyond this point...there's another keyhole in here somewhere...maybe if I find it, it will lead me to other passageways."
"Gaby and I will look for other doors," I said, "you and Napoleon look for the keyholes and if you get through just look for clues."
"Father did say the passage ways were set up like a maze," Shannon said, "he never told me where it led to."
"Well maybe we will find out now," Napoleon said.
"Hopefully," Shannon replied.
"Good luck," I said.
Gaby and I exited the room and started our expedition through the giant home.
