'BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP..." Rolling over, I press the button on my phone to turn off my obnoxious alarm clock. 7AM. I need to get ready for work. I work at this little cafe at the end of my road, nothing special but I get paid, that's the only good part.
On the days other than Saturday and Sunday I go to school, since I'm seventeen I can work as well as getting education.
Stretching, I get up and out of my cosy bed and make my way out into the hallway and into the bathroom, not before tripping over an unknown item on the floor. My brain doesn't start working until around an hour after I get up.
I take a quick shower since that's all I have time for, quickly washing my chestnut coloured hair. I've always hated my hair because its so plain, I have always wanted to dye it but my mother doesn't agree with it.
I put on some clothes, a grey and dark blue long sleeved sweater with dark jeans. I like to stay casual for work.
"Hazel, are you done yet?" My irritating older brother, Joe called from outside the bathroom door.
"One minute!" I shouted, running a brush through my tangled, wet hair. Sighing to myself, I tied it all up into a high ponytail.
Unlocking the bathroom door, Joe barges past me without saying a word.
"Good morning to you too" I call after the door was shut in my face. He doesn't reply. Joe doesn't work, he goes to college on weekdays. I wonder why he's in such a rush this morning, I'll never know.
Making my way downstairs, I enter the kitchen in a search to find breakfast. I finally settle on toast since that's the most interesting food we have in our house. I check my phone to see if I have any messages while waiting for the toast to pop up.
One from Rosa and one from my mother.
Rosa is my closest friend, I became friends with her at the beginning of high school. Well, she became friends with me since I'm very shy and barely talks to anyone. I'm jealous of how outgoing and bubbly Rosa is, she can get along with anyone, I also envy her thick, blonde hair and sky blue eyes.
'Hey, I'll pick you up on your break so we can go get lunch x' The text reads. I smile to myself before replying, agreeing to Rosa's idea.
'Sorry Hazel, me and your father will not be home until later tonight. We have a lot of work to do' The text from my mother reads. Her and my father are doctors, extremely good doctors. That's why they are always working, they are barely ever home. Neither is Joe, he's always out with his girlfriend or playing football with his friends. I like being alone though, its nice to just be with yourself sometimes.
I quickly eat my toast before pulling on my comfy brown boots, grabbing a jacket and leaving the house. I then begin my journey to the cafe. Its good that it is just at the end of the street, if it was any further I would have no way of getting there since I don't have a license and Joe wouldn't drive me because he's...Well he's Joe.
Entering the cafe, the bell above the door chimes causing Kayla, my work friend to turn her attention towards me. I give her a friendly smile which she returns.
"Hey, your hair looks nice today," She compliments me as I make my way behind the counter to begin serving customers. The cafe is never that busy, we get enough customers to keep it running.
That's the good thing about Kayla, she always compliments you on the smallest thing. My hair probably looks pretty bad today since I couldn't be bothered to do anything with it but Kayla still complimented me. Kayla has long dark hair, the colour of the sky at night, her eyes are a bright green which causes her to get a lot of attention.
"Thanks but I know it's not, I couldn't be bothered to do anything with it." I say with a shrug and Kayla faces me, hands on her hips.
"You should be bothered to do something with it, who knows, you might meet someone," Kayla sends me a wink and I let out a laugh, shaking my head at her. Yeah right, I'll meet someone, in my dreams. Glancing around the small cafe, I see a few of the usual customers. The man that always asks for the same coffee every day, the old women that insists on bringing her pesky little dog inside the cafe even though there's a sign outside that says 'NO DOGS ALLOWED.'
I begin to work, serving the few customers that walk through the door. The hours up until my lunch break goes by really slowly. I spend some time helping out the bakers in the back room, Kayla can look after the counter by herself since no customers were there. The bakers are very sweet people, I help them a lot. I love baking, its one of my hobbies, even though I'm not that great at it.
Checking my phone, I see that it is finally time for my lunch break, I let out a sigh of relief. Saying a goodbye to Kayla, I make my way outside of the dull cafe.
Two guys are leaning against the side wall of the cafe, one of them has a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. Can he not read the sign that says 'no smoking'? If it was anyone else, I would go over and tell them that they can't smoke here but there was something about these guys that didn't seem right. They looked dangerous in a way.
One of them looked up from his feet and made eye contact with me, he must have noticed me staring at them. His eyes are a bright green, the second he looked at me, I felt my breath hitch in my throat. I took notice of his appearance, black skinny jeans and a black t-shirt. His hair was pushed up on his forehead and you could see clearly that he has many tattoos up and down both his arms. He smirked a little at me before nudging his friend, that's when I noticed that he has dimples on either side of his mouth. He's honestly quite attractive.
His friend turned his head to glance at me, he looked me up and down which made me feel self conscious. He had blonde hair, it was a quiff. His face looked like it had been sculptured by angels. He had a lip ring and both arms were covered in tattoos. I leant against the wall outside the cafe, on the other side to the two creeps.
"You go to Jefferson high, don't you?" The one with the quiff spoke, a cigarette still hanging from his mouth. I looked down, not wanting to talk to them. I hoped that they would take the hint.
"You can talk you know," The smirker said, his voice low and husky. I crossed my arms over my chest. Can Rosa please hurry up.
"I'm Niall, he's Harry." The one with the quiff, that is now called Niall, informed me, moving closer to me, his friend following. I smelt the smoke from the cigarette and scrunched up my nose in disgust.
"Maybe she's deaf," Harry comments, glancing over at his friend with a shrug of his shoulders, before moving even closer to me, so close that I could smell his cologne, which honestly smelt really good.
"I'm not" I mumbled, looking up at the boy stood in front of me. His bright eyes pierced into mine, and I felt extremely intimidated.
"So you can talk after all," Harry speaks, smirking again, "What's your name?"
"Hazel." I reply bluntly, pulling out my phone I check it to see if Rosa has text me at all, just in case she informed me that she was busy.
"Beautiful name for a beautiful girl." Niall responds. He was surprisingly nice for having the bad and dangerous image. A second later, Harry takes my phone out of my hand before typing on it. I try to get it back, who does he think he is?
"I put my number in, call me sometime Hazel," Harry lets me know with a wink. The two of them turn around and begin to walk away, leaving me confused.
They must go to my school, its strange since I don't remember seeing anyone around that looks like them. I would definitely remember them.
Something about Harry lit a spark inside me, he seems so mysterious and I can't help but want to know more about him. I know it's probably bad to get involved with them but I feel like I need to.
"Hazel! I'm so sorry, my car broke down" I hear Rosa's voice apologise, I look to see my blonde friend moving quickly towards me. "I bet your lunch break is over now," She frowns.
"Probably...but its fine, I'll just take the rest of the day off. I have a lot to tell you!" I say. I have to tell her about my short encounter with Niall and Harry.
