Felix Whitely

As I approached the entrance to the school I heard someone call out to me.
"Damian. What are you doing this time?" I turned around to see Galelacia standing there. Why did she follow me?
"Why did you follow me?" I asked back, ignoring her question.
"I can do whatever. What are you doing?"
"There's things I need to take care of, Wolfie."
"Is this the game you're playing Garlic Boy? Calling me the names now?" I wonder where my brother is?  I thought.
"Leave me alone, I'm waiting for someone. I don't want a fight or an argument with you. I'm just waiting for someone."
 "Waiting for who?"
"My brother. Now, go away. You said it yourself, you don't me to be around you. I was fine with that, but it seems more like you can't leave me alone. Always have to bug or nag me in someway. You told what happened to me to the entire class. I hate that and most of all, I hate people, werewolves or whatever like you." I spat the words out. Everything I was holding back since she told the class, since I respected what she said, everything. I walked out of the school and into the car park, leaving Galelacia behind.

I walked over to where I could see a car that resembled my brothers' and stood near it. Not long of me waiting, Felix appeared from round the corner to approach me. He didn't look the same. His left eye, colourless, as if someone drained the colour out, clothes ripped, his hair having black fighting against his natural vibrant orange, him walking with a slight limp and the thing that stood out the most was he only had his left hand. What happened to the brother I once knew? What happened while I was away?  Was everything I kept thinking about at that moment in time.
"Felix, what happened to you?" I asked.
"This? Nothing to bad." he replied, not looking directly at me like he always did. Something was up with him.
"There is something wrong. You didn't even look at me."
"It's nothing for you to worry about, I'm fine."
"Felix, you're limping, it looks like you were in a fire, your left eye looks colourless and worst of all, you don't have your right hand. Tell me what happened." I took two steps closer to him so he couldn't avoid it. He always felt intimidated when someone approached him slowly.
"Fine. When I went back after receiving the letter that was sent out, you were gone, Credri wasn't there, mother and father were gone and there was no traces of anyone else. I got worried that something happened and became vulnerable to everyone in the town. Everyone turned against each other. I was caught in a fire circle and barely escaped. I went looking around for you guys and found no trace of you anywhere. I was attacked from behind by our neighbour and ended up with the limp. I called you as soon as I found a safe place to hide. I was glad to hear that someone was safe."
"That doesn't explain your eye or your right hand."
"It's not something for you to hear. Let me just say; it's not one of my finer moments. Anyways, are you fine staying here?"
"No. I hate it. Where are you going?"
"I'm going somewhere that's not the best place for you."
"Tell me you're at least seeking treatment for your injuries."
"I'm fine with them as they are."
"Your wrist still looks like it's bleeding and I bet that you can't see. Tell me the rest of what happened!" I've never seen my brother like this, I want him to explain every piece of information with me.

Felix always was pushed away from others, never talked to anyone and kept to himself. He hated the thought of other people interfering and yet, that's what he does most of the time. I always wondered how he did what he does considering he doesn't let others in himself. I always looked up to him for having courage to help others while he's most likely suffering deep inside and other times, I was worried. I worried he wouldn't share what he felt, things someone needs to let out, to speak about. He needs to tell me what happened, I don't mean in a few hours or anything like that, I mean right now. For all I know, he could bleed to death right in front of my eyes. My roll model, the only person I looked up to in my life, the one who saw me cry when I wanted to be alone, the one who made me smile and most importantly, the one who was a better father than our biological one.
"Please tell me the rest. I don't care how bad it gets. I want to know who did this to your hand and eye." I said in a whisper, barely projectable.
"If I tell you, you wouldn't believe me." he replied.
 "Please?"
"I can't tell you in a place people will hear us."
"Then sign me out. I doubt these people know who I'm staying with anyway. Please, you were like a father to me. I have a right to know."
"I can't do that Damian, you know that. It's your first day here. Don't worry about me, I'll be fine."
"Felix, come on! We need to get going before something happens that we can't control! Get back in the car!" I could hear a voice call out through the parking lot and they sounded impatient. I started to go more worried about Felix then I ever have before. I don't want him hurt again.

Five years ago. I heard arguing coming from the living room, pots and pans coming in through the kitchen. I was only ten whilst all this was happening. I made the worst mistake of my life that day. I walked into the kitchen to see Felix and father arguing.
"Felix, as the older son, you must inherit the family company. This is not open for debate." I heard father say as he blocked himself from the raging Felix.
"Why? I'm not your only child. Jonah has always shown more interest in it than what I have, and you know that. Is it so bad me doing what I want to do?" Felix said whilst raging out on father.
"Jonah is a smart young man, it will take too long if we wait for him to come-of-age and take over the company. Felix, what you plan to do won't get you anywhere in life, the family company will."
"You don't get it do you? It has no interest in me. I don't care about parties. You only invite important people and even on my birthday and I had a party, you and mother ruined it for me. I'm not taking over the company." I saw Felix approach where I was. Me being the stupid ten year old I was, I just stood there like a fool. Felix saw me standing there and went on his knees to be around the same height as I am.
"You heard all of that, didn't you?" Felix said in a calmer voice than the one he was talking to father in. I nodded my head and looked at him in the eye.
"What is it you want to do but father doesn't accept?" I asked, the curious kid I was back then. Felix smiled and let out a quiet laugh.
"I want to help others who are less fortunate than us. Father doesn't agree considering he doesn't care about others less fortunate then us."
"Why do you want to help them? Did something happen for you to choice that?"
"I was walking around two months ago when I saw a group of vampires not knowing anything and getting picked on by others. I stood in to help and they only stopped because of our social standing in this town. They thanked me and for the first time, I felt like I can make a difference in this grim world we live in. It's not just vampires I want to help and that's where father is disagreeing with me. I want to help humans, demons, werewolves, elves and everything like that. I want to help if they are in poverty or anything like that."
 "I'll support you."
 "Thank you, Damian."

I care about Felix as a younger brother should and I never wanted to see him hurt again. I swore from that day I would do whatever I could to be there for him.
"Please tell me the rest. I can see that you're in pain."
"Let's go." Felix pulls me into the car with him and the other person I heard from across the parking lot. I had no idea where we were going.
