The words tumble out of my mouth. I don't even know his face. It just all clicked.
Percy, on the other hand, gives me a confused look.
"Sorry, do I know you?" He asks, uncertainly. Man his green eyes were so striking...
"Probably not" I say, casually. Inside me lays a twisted ball of fear, anticipation and pure guilt that I walked onto his group like that. They acted so friendly towards each other until I barged in.
"No seriously" Percy laughs " Loads of weird stuff happens here. We know how you feel."
I laugh sarcastically "Right. So you know how it feels to be sucked of your memory and put in an unfamiliar place with people laughing about you. I'm sure."
Annabeth exchanges a glance with Percy.
"I do, actually" Percy explains "But that's another story altogether. The point is, we've seen it all."
"Then tell me all" I counter "Why do I know only you?"
"I don't know."
"Well that's really helpful, isn't it?" I feel so frustrated. I have realized I hate not knowing.
I get up to leave. Snickers arise from the crowd as I depart from the pavilion.
"Where are you going" Percy asks.
"Somewhere"
My legs lead me across the lawn, across sand dunes to a sparkling dark sea. The waves break in perfect unison, spreading through the water. The white noise of crashing waves lulls my mind away from annoyance.
I sit on the beach, relaxed. I hope that in my past life, I enjoyed nature as much as I do now.
A figure makes it way towards me. I begin to panic, hoping that it isn't a creature Will was talking about.
It is a human, I think. A man.
The dude is only a few meters away, slowing down.
"Hey" The man says "What're you doing all alone on the beach."
"Oh nothing, just wallowing in my own self hatred."
The dude creases his forehead. He looks like Percy in a way with his layed back style and sea green eyes. Hmmmm...
"Yeah, getting your memory taken sucks. Big time. I just hope you find it. Look in the right place."
"Thanks? Wait how did you-" I start
"Listen to my son. He has saved Olympus a few times so I think he's an expert. Farewell miss."
I watch as he jogs down, turns to face the wave and- suddenly gone, melted in the foamy whitewash.
Heeding the dudes words. I walk back to the camp pavilion where they are serving dinner.
"How did you get back so quickly?" Percy asks.
"Dunno, anyway, I'm starved. Give me some of the good stuff."
When dinner is over, we all retire back to our cabins (I am in Hermes although until further notice from my parent).
As I turn out the light, it occurs to me that Beach Man may have stopped time in our visit. Just a thought anyway.
It couldn't possible, could it?;-: are you guys sad. I am. But it had to happen or this would be a short and boring story. Actually I'm not because I knew it would happen. Anyway, going to give appreciation to my friends Chloe and Alicia, my first reader and very good friends. Thank you both!
Peace, love, science
