Rain pelted on the Truck as if it were being riddled with bullets. Looking out the window I watched the cloudy sky pour down on the city, drowning it. I could sense my older brother Kaleb looking at me. "God is peeing on us," he said."Ha, ha, like I haven't heard that one before. Watch the road before you kill us both,"
I said annoyed. He smirked.I'm not sure how we made it to school, but my brother pulled into the parking lot taking up two spots. "See you later," my brother said jumping out of his truck before anyone could see him talking to me.
He is very popular and on the baseball team. His hair is golden brown and he's tall 6'3, but what made all the girls at my high school swoon was his bright blue eyes.
As for me, I'm Invisible. I'm not a geek or a jock. I'm that person people know from going to the same school for sixteen years, but they don't talk to me.
My group of friends we all go unnoticed, have no boyfriends, and hangout doing stupid stuff like going to the movies every Friday night when we should be at parties.
"Phoebe there you are!" I looked through the trucks side mirror to see my best friend Summer skipping toward me. "You look amazing. Stop trying to fix your hair, we are going to be late to class!"
I glanced one more time in the mirror. My hair was wet making it look almost black. It was usually a strait chestnut brown color. My brother says it needs more volume, but I can't help it, my hair won't even hold curls. I was skinny and tan. What was wrong with me? Why won't guys notice me? Is it because I'm flat chested and have a small butt?
I turned to Summer, she has curves and long blonde hair. She looks like Candice Swanpoel, but still she hasn't had a boyfriend either.
"Come on Pheebs, let's get Spanish over with." She linked arms with me and we skipped through the rain together. We pretty much had all the same classes.
My Spanish teacher was a petite outgoing Mexican named Mrs. Sanchez. She would do funny gestures to help you figure out what she was saying. We ended up being put in groups and are assignment was to work on a grammar sheet together. Summer was luckily put in my group.
The whole class started chatting loudly, but the teacher didn't care Mrs. Sanchez would walk down the rows and talk with every group in English even though it was horrible she didn't care.
Summer elbowed me and when I looked at her she nodded her head towards the door. When I looked I saw Charlotte from the cheer team looking at me through the tiny window attached to the door. She ducked as soon as we made eye contact. "What was that about?" Summer asked. I shook my head. "I don't know, but I can guess."
After Spanish class was over I went to my locker before my next class dropping off my Spanish books. Charlotte appeared next to me. "Um Phoebe right?" I stared at her kinda shocked. She was actually speaking to me. Hold the phone, a cheerleader talking to me!? A nobody. In what world!?
I was so shocked I just nodded my head.
"Phoebe I was wondering if you could maybe set me up on a date with your brother? Please?"
Most don't even know Kaleb and I are related so I have no idea how Charlotte found out. I sighed disappointed, I should have known better that a popular girl would come up to me only to bring up my brother. I had a feeling it would be because of him. I just didn't want to believe it, I will always be a nobody.
"Charlotte even if I did ask my brother the odds of him listening to me are slim."
"So it's true Kaleb is your brother! Oh Phoebe please try. Here." She stuck out her hand and it was a card. I took it and read it. It was an invitation to a party. "What's this?" I asked clearly knowing what it was. "It's an invite to Monica's party. Show this to your brother and when you guys leave together come pick me up. My address is on the back of the invite. You can bring a friend too." She smiled at me and walked away.
I was completely frozen in disbelief, only the card that was in my hand was proof that the conversation even happened at all. Summer came bouncing up to me. "Phoebe what's that? And why was Charlotte talking to you?"
"It's an invite to Monica's party and you're going with me."
Summer's jaw dropped. "The Monica!?"
I nodded.
Monica is head cheerleader and the most popular girl at school. She's been prom queen twice already. The parties she throws are huge and you have to receive an invite to get in. My brother has been to every single one coming home drunk and sometimes hugging the toilet all night.
Summer and I still stood in shock our first party ever would be at Monica's! "When is it?" Summer asked. I looked at the golden invite in my hand. "Tonight."
"What! we don't have enough time!" Summer shrieked. A few people around us glanced at Summers out burst, but they immediately went back to pretending we didn't exist.
Summer grabbed my hand and we ran out to her car. We were ditching the rest of our classes, but it's not like we haven't done it before. The teachers don't even notice or care we go unnoticed. I sent my brother a text not to worry about taking me home.
We headed to the local mall which was packed surprisingly. We paid and got our makeup done and then we bought dresses. Summer bought a black short dress that made her look sexy. I may be a nobody, but I'm not blind either I know when a girl looks good. My dress was was red and short. We wanted to look hot and shock everyone.
After the mall Tasha came over to my house and she straitened her blonde hair. Mine was already strait, but I ran the straightener through it a few times.
When Kaleb got home from school. He barged into the bathroom looking at us girls. He busted out laughing. "Wow I didn't know you girls could pull something like this off. What's the occasion?" I gave him the card and he frowned. I knew he was mad. "Who gave this to you!?" We both stayed quiet. "Phoebe! Who gave this to you!?" "Charlotte did, she told me she needed a ride." He ripped the card in half and threw it away. " You two can't go!" He then walked out and I heard him slam his bedroom door. A few seconds later we heard him yelling at someone over the phone in his room, probably Charlotte.
Summer looked at me kinda sad bent down and picked up the invitation. "Phoebe let's go to my house."
Summer's house was loud and filled with her smaller siblings we went up to her room and locked the door. She started taping the invite back together. "We are going! Let's call and reserve a taxi." All we had to do now was wait until dark.
