I woke up to loud arguing in the kitchen.

"She's not allowed to leave this house!"

"She has to go to school. She needs to learn."

"There are bigger problems at stake!"

I slowly drag myself out of bed and head down stairs. When I reached the bottom of the stairs I saw both my mom and dad stop and stare at me.

"Oh pumpkin noodle!" My father shouted and came running to give me a hug. He grabbed me, lifting me up  in a huge embrace. He kissed my fore head and then softly kissed my swollen eye.

"I missed you too dad." I said squeezing my arms around him.

He set me down and suddenly became serious.

"We need to talk about what's been happening. It's not something you can throw off to the side baby girl. This is serious. You have ten minutes and then we will have a family meeting."

I headed into the small kitchen and poured myself a cup of coffee. My mom grabbed a cup too she had huge bags under her eyes. She probably just got back from work and wanted to sleep.

Kaleb came trotting down the stairs and sat on the couch with my dad discussing sports and what not.

I sat in the recliner while my mom say next to my dad.

"Alrighty now that we are all here. Baby girl this family meeting is for you. So as you figured out a hand full of people that live here are not exactly human."

Kaleb chuckled and my father hit him on the head and gave him the ugliest glare I've ever seem.

"Baby girl, I'm called a first generation vampire. My blood line is pure going back to the royals. I can have kids with humans like your mom. Your brother is a first generation. Your human body gives in to the vampire blood when your in your later teens. You are difficult. When you were born there was a mutation that occurred. So you will always be human. I'm sorry about that.

My mom got up and hugged me tight. I scooted over so we were squished together on the recliner.

My father continued, "Then there is second generation those are vampires that are  made, turned by a first generation not a second. I heard news your friend Tasha was recently turned. She's a second generation."

"How do you know?" I interrupted.

"There are laws Phoebe, laws we have to follow. I'm one of the counsel members, I was voted to be. So I travel a lot meeting with the members discussing new laws and illegal punishment.  Music scouting is my second job I do for fun, which also has me traveling a lot. "

"Dad... I just want things the way they use to be."

"I'm sorry sugar, but things are going to change. Now tell me who gave you that black eye? We can move you know."

"Dad, we don't need to move. I'll miss my friends too much."

"You mean, friend. Loner!" My brother shouted.

My father smacked him on the head again.

"Kaleb, you are supposed to be protecting her. Did it not register to you that when I'm away your the father of the house." My father said angry.

"I'm sorry I don't invade her space." Kaleb shot back.

He really shouldn't have done that.

"Outside! Now!"

Kaleb got up and slammed the front door. A few minutes later we heard his car start. He must have left to school.

"Now princess, who did that to your beautiful face?"
