"Text me when you're gonna be home. Remember, it's a school night. Be in bed by a reasonable time" my mom says. I wave before walking out the door, and Toby's already standing there.

"Oh, hey Toby" I say a bit surprised. I didn't expect him to be here already.

"Hey Em. Sorry if I'm here a bit early, I just really want to talk with you" he says. I smile.

"It's okay," I assure him. He smiles too.

"Shall we?" He says, offering his hand. I attempt not to laugh and respond, "Yes, we shall," putting my hand into his.

We walk all around town for a good hour or two while our hands are intertwined. We talk about how much both seventh and eighth grade suck.

"Yeah, Mrs. Kelly sucked as a math teacher," Toby laughs. I nod in agreement.

"But ya know what sucks even more?" He asks.

"The cafeteria food?" I say. He chuckles.

"Yes, of course that sucks. But I was gonna say that next year we're not gonna be in the same school for that year. I'll be in ninth grade while you'll still be in eighth," he says.

"Yeah, it'll kind of suck. But just don't worry about it for the time being. Just think about the moment that's happening right now," I tell him. He smiles. I expect him to tell me that I'm right, or give me a hug. But instead he guides me towards the side of the road and we end up sitting down, releasing our hands that were holding a few moments ago.

"Have I ever told how brave you are?" He asks. I quietly laugh and look down.

"I'm not kidding, Em. You're so brave, and I respect you so much because of that," he says. I shake my head, not quite looking up still.

"No," I say. "I'm not that brave."

He shuffles closer to me. I slightly stiffen up. I don't normally have people this close to me, and I really don't know how I feel about it.

"Yes you are, Emily. When Kat... when you got locked in bathroom, you were brave. You-"

"I cried, Toby. I was a coward," I cut him off.

"You didn't let me finish," he says. "You were scared, but right after that, you just walked out the door and went to the movie theatre. And then you went back, and you played truth or dare without being nervous at all. You went down to the basement and let me kiss you, even after all that happened," As he says this, I blush and finally look up.

"And after I left, god knows what other things you did. Being brave is not never being scared. It's being able to do something you're scared of, and making it through and keep going even thought you might be scared. And that's a trait I'll forever love about you."

I sit there for a few moments, observing his face for untruthfulness or lies. But I can't seem to find any, he looks genuinely sincere. I've never heard of a 13 year old boy say something like that to a girl. Boys don't say things like this, atleast from the things I've heard.

Instead of responding with a comment like, "You're lying," or something sarcastic, I don't say anything at all. Instead I put my hand on his cheek and lean in as our lips touch. He pulls back in surprise but leans in and softly kisses me. We pull away, my hand still on his cheek.

"That was a pretty good response too," he says. I laugh and smile. He smiles back. He puts his arms hesitantly around me and pulls me closer to him. This night is perfect. Nothing can ruin it.

Epilogue

"Em, can you go check on Daniel? I'm sure he'll be excited to see you again," My mom says to me.

"Yeah, sure. Is he just in his room?" I ask. She nods her head and I walk down the hallway I've grown up in and go into my little brothers room. I knock on the door and he yells for me to come in. When I open it, I see Daniel with his friend. His eyes go wide when he sees me.

"Emily!" He shouts. He runs up to me and gives me a hug.

"Hey bud," I say. He coughs and releases the hug, probably embarrassed about the reaction he had in front of his friend.

"Jordan, this is my sister. She lives in LA so I don't think you've met her yet," Daniel says to his friend who I've just learned is named Jordan.

"I didn't even know you had another sister!" Jordan exclaims. I laugh.

"Speaking of which, where's Jamie?" I ask.

"She's in her room. And where's Toby?" He asks.

"He's outside helping dad make the fence," I tell him. He nods and tells Jordan he'll be right back. I leave the room as well and knock on Jamie's door.

"Come in!" She shouts just as Toby did. I open the door and when she sees me she runs up to me and gives me a hug.

"Emily! You came back!" She says. I laugh.

"Of course I did. I always will," I say.

"Toby's out back, you can go say hi to him," I tell her.

"Okay, I will. How's your baby doing though?" She asks.

I pat my stomach as I respond with, "She's doing really good. Now go say hi," I say as lightly push her out of her room. She laughs as she runs down the hallways.

I go into the room I'm staying in and start to unpack my bag. I look out the window and see Toby playing with Daniel and Jamie as a smile appears across my face.

My life is amazing. I have two teenage siblings, I'm 22 and engaged with a beautiful baby on the way, and I'm marrying the man of my dreams. I couldn't have asked for anything better.
