Chapter Seven
When I wake up in the morning I grab something to wear and get in the shower. I get out and get dressed and I hear arguing.
"You were working!" Lilly says. "You promised your daughter that you would take her to dinner. You haven't spent any time with her since she's been here! You want her to forgive you for being stupid then show her that she can trust you again!"
"Lily I am trying."
"No the hell you aren't! You think she's just going to come back to you willingly? It's been two years and she still thinks you are a jerk!"
"Lily."
"I am done talking to you about this. You need to take your daughter to the airport." She comes down the hall and he comes after her and then they see me and stop. "Hi, are you ready?" She asks.
"Yeah, but I don't want him to take me to the airport I want you and Josie to take me. At this point I think I know you two better than I know my father of sixteen years."
"Your eighteen." He says.
"My point exactly." I go back in my room and grab my bags. "Lily?"
"Yeah I'll take you, but Josie is still sleeping. I'll tell her you said goodbye." I nod.
"Bye dad." I grab my bags and take them down stairs. He follows me down and puts my bags in the car.
"Pumpkin I'm sorry." I turn around.
"You're always sorry, but I can't tell when you really mean it and when you're just bullshitting. I came here partially thinking that maybe we can come to some type of common ground and then I thought I don't want to be here. Lily and Josie...they are great and then there's you."
"I am not the big bad wolf here."
"No, but you are defiantly not my father, but I hope you can be Josie's." I get in the car and turn away from him. Lily gets in the car and we drive off.
When we get to the airport I thank Lily. "Thank you so much for saying something."
"No it's fine." I let the tears fall.
"And I'm sorry for calling you a slut two years ago, I was upset. I didn't mean it." I wipe my eyes. "I don't think I could ask for a better step mother." She smiles and then wipes her eyes.
"I don't think I could ask for a better step daughter." I hug her tightly. "Come back soon Sam." I sigh and pull away.
"I don't know about that, but I will call you and Josie. My dad is a completely different story, but I have to go." She nods. I squeeze her hand. "Thank you for the shopping and fun." She laughs and nods. Before I board the plane I look back and see her still standing there, watching me go.
When my plane lands I get my bags and I see something I didn't expect to see. I stop in mid step and smile wildly. Conner. I walk up to him slowly.
"What are you doing here." I say hugging him. "Don't answer that, I'm just glad you're here."
He picks me up and spins me around. He puts me down and grabs my bags.
"So how was it?" He asks as I lead the way to my car.
"Um...it was ok. I had fun with Lily and Josie, but I barley saw my dad the hole time and let's just say I hate him even more and I love Lily."
"Is that a good thing or a bad thing?"
"Um I think it's both."
"Oh." We approach the car and he puts my bags in the back. "Well I brought my car and someone has to drive it back so I'll see you later?" I nod. He pulls me to him and kisses me. "Bye." He says lips still on mine. I give him one last peck and get in my car.
