Alice's Pov

I looked into the mirror and let out a deep breath, I was pretty, beautiful even but yet I still had not a person in the world whom I could call a true friend, I didn't even have a real family. My mother had apparently died before I reached the age of 4 and I hardly remembered her, my father died not long before her and my aunt -my only other family had also died before I was 3. My adopted mother was nice enough but she could never take the place of my beautiful fair haired, turquoise and golden eyed mother. I had not even a photo to remember my mother with but I would never forget the picture of her stunning warm smiling face looking down at me, she had kissed me goodbye and left our cottage never to return. Pulling myself from my memories I looked back to the mirror, looked at my tear shining eyes so similar to those of my mother, I had to keep on, for her, for my mother.

At school I was interested to hear news of a new student, she was called Jade. I saw her at lunch and she was on her own, what harm was there in getting to know her, it wasn't like she'd like me of course, for some reason I seemed to repel everyone who came near me. "Hi Jade, I hear you're new. My name is Alice" I told her. I recognised the look on her face, the furrowed brows, she like I often found I was, was deep in thought. She looked up at me, her eyes began to widen, they were beautiful eyes, not like mine but a stunning warm liquid gold colour, almost stark opposite of my imploring gold lined turquoise ones. Her head was slightly on its side like an animal trying to look at something many different ways, it was almost like she knew me and deep down I sort of recognised her as well! I sat down beside her hoping to god that this girl might like me even a tinsy slice of how much I already found myself liking her.

By the end of the week Jade and I were going everywhere together, we sat together in our classes, say on the same table at lunch and one afternoon we even walked home to her house together to work on our homework together! It was amazing, Jade and I were like sisters we seemed to be meant for each other. It was I think the first time I was truly happy.

When I saw Jade in the halls at school the next day I ran up to her and hugged her, she smiled and hugged me back. "Morning Alice" she smiled, "Morning Jade" I replied. As we walked to class we chatted about the pre-ball party Amelia was holding on the weekend, "You know we could actually get invited, Amelia says she is going to invite pretty much the whole of grade 10 and 11 it's going to be huge!" Chattered Jade, "If we go what are we going to wear we should go shopping together!" Her face lit up at the second bit. "We should go get our hair done how we could try out a few styles to see what will be best for the ball. Ohh it will be fantastic" if I was to be honest with myself I wasn't the type for clothes shopping and hair and makeup, nor did I have much money to spend but there was no way I would euin my first real friendship over something so minor. If Jade wanted to go shopping and get out hair and makeup done then that is exactly what we would do!
