Chapter 24: Bye!

Bruja made a motion in the air, making tree roots grow from the ground and tie Mason Chris and Toby to the ground.
And she smacked Kidd against a tree with a force of air.
"Apparently ye guys don't know when ye are beat" she hissed.

"Or maybe they're just waiting for backup!" A woman's voice shouted, making Bruja turn her attention away from Kidd.

"I knew there was a little girl among ye guys in our last visit, oh and I see ye have brought some friends. If it isn't James and the stupid broad Roberta Moore."

"My name is Rosalinda" she corrected.

"Whatever" Bruja sneered.

"How did you find us?" Mason asked.

"A mermaid told me, that you guys were gonna need backup" she winked at Kidd.
"Looks like she was right"

"dupla duplum, omnia vincit" Bruja chanted.
"omnes interficere" she ended her chant by saying. And then she split, and doubled.
Suddenly there were 4 Bruja's standing ready for battle.
"Great just what we needed" James muttered unsatisfactorily.

Kidd ran over and cut the roots of the trees and freed Mason, Toby and Chris.

"Wait something is happening" Chris said.
"I feel it too" Toby agreed.

"Oh not now, we don't have time for this" Kidd whined as he and Mason stood prepared to defend Toby and Chris as they were returning to their own bodies.
One of Brujas doppelgängers came towards Kidd and Mason with a sword lifted over her head.
Kidd parried her first attack. But as he saw his opportunity to pound her in the stomach his hand went right through her.

She laughed. "How do ye beat someone who ye can't touch?" She said in a sing song voice.
She took her sword and struck Kidd again, managing at the same time striking Mason. Both of them successfully ducked, and parried her attacks as they came but they were wearing out. Luckily Bruja hadn't noticed Chris and Toby returning to themselves and preparing to attack.

"Go hide" Chris ordered as he straightened his immaculate jacket, and stroked his sword.

"But I want to help" Toby pleaded.

"No it is to dangerous now that you have returned to yourself" Chris said and pointed Toby to the tree he had been hiding behind.
Toby ran to the tree and hid, as he watched his friends fight an impossible enemy.

"I've got to do something" Toby said as he watched Bruja continuously trying to strike down his brother.
He remembered back to when he was home, and he and his bother would play as their mother would hang laundry out to dry. Once he and his brother had been playing with a torch and had accidentally set a sheet on fire. And then it hit him.
"Fire" he muttered as he grabbed some rocks and some dry twigs to make fire. After a few unsuccessful tries he manages to get a small bonfire going.
He grabbed a few branches with leaves still on and lit them up, and ran as quickly as he could towards the doppelgänger attacking Kidd and Mason and set her rags on fire.
The doppelgänger panicked and screamed as her rags burned, until she disappeared into a thick grey fog.

"Brilliant" Mason and Kidd exclaimed, as Toby handed both of them a burning branch.
They split up and began setting the other doppelgängers on fire, and suddenly the entire hill was covered in grey fog.

"How dare ye" Bruja growled, from behind the fog. The crewmates gathered together in a outwards circle with Toby in the middle so they could attack her from every angle.

"How dare ye set my sisters on fire" she roared like a wounded beast.

"Lets finish this" Kidd said ready to parry, but out of nowhere a arrow of fog hit him, and went straight through him. Making him stumble and fall.

"Kidd!" Cora cried out, as she saw Kidd laying on the grown grasping for air.

"I'll be the death of ye, one way or another" she laughed from inside the fog.

"Leave him alone, fight us" James yelled.

"Oh little poor James, son of a woman who had been widowed well thrice I guess if you count William Kidd. Oh I almost forgot, while we're at it how about we share a deep family secret?" She played.
"What is the true name of yer dear Captain Kidd?" She asked singing every word.

"We don't want to know" Chris said standing up for his Captain.

"It's not that bad, I once knew a kid named Gage, and as the name would suggest he liked provoking people until they wanted to gage," her voice was like a hissing snake.
"Why doesn't the great captain Kidd want anybody to know his name? Would everybody lose respect for him?"

"We would respect him even if his name was Ashley" Mason yelled.

"I don't care if they know anymore" Kidd stammered through the searing pain in his body.

"We'll then I think ye should be the one to tell them" she suggested in an almost threat.

"We don't wanna know" Mason said and covered his ears, Chris did they same, as did Toby, Rosalinda and Cora.
James stood there looking at his brother laying helpless on the ground.
He pulled his pistol, and pointed it towards the fog, and sent Rosalina a look.

Rosalinda removed her hands from her ears and yelled.
"Here's a little trick I picked up in Singapore!"
She said a few words and slammed her hands towards the ground, and the fog dropped immediately. And at gun point James had Bruja.

"Bye" he said and pulled the trigger.
