Chapter 13

Salix and I drive up to Chester Road, the street is flooded with people and cars. I guess our haven isn't as discreet as I thought it would be. Luckily the house is big enough to fit us all in. The mansion is a stained white color, I remember my brother and I use to dare each other to get close to it, scared because we thought it was haunted. Funny how much power a house can have over you. Salix and I walk up the stairs to find the house already brimming with people, people from all over the Nation. At this very moment there is no doubt in my mind we will lose to Carter, not anymore. Salix and I stand in front of the crowd trying to gather their attention, they are quick to quiet down. People proceed to walk in he house more and more by the minute, people standing on the stairs and along the second floor banister over looking us.

"Carter Dell, the man who founded this Nation, is alive. He took an immortality serum that the Russians created, among the immortality serum are others such as mind control which he plans on using against you and me, everyone, the whole Nation. He is working with Liam Bailey, Tucker Reed, and Frederick Lancing. We need to fight, Carter Dell has a potion that can destroy all of the serum and its effects, once we get hold of it and the serums he stole we win-" Salix is interrupted.

"He's here!" A man burst through the door yelling. The crowd starts to murmur and the volume of the room raises dramatically.

     "Quiet!" Salix shouts. "Who's here?"

"Frederick Lancing and Tucker Reed. They're here in the Nation," the man says out of breath.

"Did you see Carter or Liam?" I ask.

He shakes his head. "No, they were alone. I saw them, they were just accompanied by another man I don't know who."

"Okay, listen up," Salix raises his voice. "Our first mission is take Frederick and Tucker hostage, take them before they can get to any of us. Grab as many weapons as you can and defend yourselves people," Salix shouts holding his gun up and the crowd begins to roar.

I grab my pistol holding it in my left hand still cautious of the bullet wound on my opposite shoulder. I stare at everyone scurrying around, our plan is messy, it's a go-in-there-and-die type plan. Isn't that what war is? From all I've learned in school it's that war destroys countries and kills so many innocent people willing to fight for what they believe, this is war. These people are willing to help us fight against Carter, fight for their lives, to not be under the control of a leader who will so much as brain wash us or even kill us if we fight against him. This is mission we have to hit head on, we're all going to have to make sacrifices, some will just be bigger than others. Now that we heard Frederick and Tucker are back in the Nation that gives us confirmation that Carter and Liam must still be back in Russia.

"We have to go after the other two," I say to Salix. He bends downs down closer so his ear is nearly up against my mouth.

"You're suggesting we go to Russia?" He asks.

"I think having people fight here in the Nation is our chance to go after Carter and Liam without worrying about the fate of the Nation. We have our army, now it's time to use sheer force," I say. Salix nods his head in agreement.

I see Nicholas, Ramona and Felix maneuver through the crowd to get to Salix and I. "We have a different plan," I shout to them over the noise of the crowd.

     "What is it?" Felix ask.

"Salix, Nicholas and I will be going to head back to Russia once Tucker and Frederick are captured by our army," I say. "It's the only way to get all four of them."
