It was Saturday which meant there was one more day before classes actually begin. It was 2 in the afternoon and Rocky was in his bed, writing in his journal. He expressed himself and how he felt in the book better than he could in his actions. As he finished up writing, he closed his journal and tucked it back under his pillow where he thought I'd be safe. He didn't think his roommate would invade his privacy but still felt the need to hide it.
Rocky looked over toward Zuma to see the boy was still asleep in his bed. It surprised the grey-haired boy to see someone sleep for so long.
Rocky thought if he could make friends with Zuma, but immediately was pulled out of his thoughts by his phone going off. He went to grab his phone and saw he had a text message from his best friend, Chase. It read, "Hey, Rocks, I was wondering if you could swing by my dorm later. Room 254." Rocky had totally forgotten that the brunette said he'd be attending the same college as him.
"Sure thing. I'll be there in a bit." He replied as he tossed his phone onto his bed and slipped on a pair of sweats and his favorite green pull-over hoodie. But before leaving his dorm he thought about his roommate and what would happen if he woke up and Rocky wasn't there. He decided to leave a note stating where he went so Zuma wouldn't worry. He placed it on the desk and silently left the room.
Rocky arrived at Chase's room, but before he could knock, the door swung open and a tall man stood in the doorway. He had long, light-brown hair, shoulder length and a goatee that totally complemented his greenish eyes. "Hello mate," was all he said before continuing out the door and down the hall. Rocky watched as the rather handsome stranger disappeared around the corner.
He walked into the room and immediately knew which side was Chase's. clothes thrown all over the place, monster cans strewn over the floor. "Uh, you know those things aren't very healthy, right?" Rocky said, surprised by the number of empty cans on the floor. "Uh, you know I don't care, right?" Chase said rolling his eyes. Rocky took a seat in the chair next to the brunettes' bed and watched as Chase put all the clothes in a pile and began to sort them, clean from dirty.
"So how's my favorite little grey-haired weirdo been?" Chase asked causing said boy to roll his eyes. Rocky liked that he and Chase could have a conversation together. One where Rocky doesn't stumble over his words and totally freak out. "I've been fine I guess..." he sighed. "Still not good at talking to people..." he added knowing Chase was going to ask if he's made any new friends. Chase sighed as he sat on his bed facing Rocky. "I know talking to people isn't easy for you, but you can't keep using avoidance as a coping strategy." He said, knowing that it wasn't that people that were avoiding him but the other way around.
The grey-haired boy sighed "It's just scary..."
"I know, I know, just try and give people a chance" Chase ruffled the boy's hair as he went back to sort through his pile of clothes. "Seriously, you're going to get a kidney stone if you keep drinking those monsters like you do" Rocky pointed out causing Chase to roll his eyes again as he threw a shirt at the boy. "Ew gross, how do I know if this is clean or not?" the grey-haired boy asked giggling a bit. "I don't know, why don't you sniff it and see..." the brunette smiled. Rocky threw the shirt back at the brunette holding his nose. "I'd rather not..." he answered.

Zuma walked out of the bathroom, drying his hair finally noticing that his roommate was nowhere to be found. At first he thought the boy might've gotten another room, but when he saw his things still here that thought was cut short. He then noticed a piece of folded up paper on the grey-haired boy's desk. He picked it up, unfolded it and read it. "I went to visit a friend so don't worry. Should be back later." Zuma stared at the piece of paper before placing it on his desk, since he was going to go meet up with his friends at a coffee shop not too far away from campus. He slipped into a pair of black skinny jeans and a sleeveless orange hoodie before leaving out the door.
Zuma entered the coffee shop searching for his friends when he spotted them at a nearby table. "Hey Zuma!" the cheeky blonde greeted his friend, embracing him in a hug as he approached the table. "Hey Wubble" he said patting his friends head. He then turned his attention to the brunette who was still sitting, sipping her coffee. "What, no hug fwom you?" Zuma said jokingly causing her to roll her eyes. Skye and Rubble had been friends with Zuma since kindergarten. They had been through a lot together, but ever since their Junior year of high school they hadn't been talking much, mostly because Zuma moved out of his parents' house to live with his brother.
"So how many courses are you taking this semester?" Skye asked, directing her question toward Zuma. He sighed, "I'm only taking 4 classes this semester" Zuma took a sip from his Mocha frappe that Skye ordered for him before he got there. "How about you?" he asked. "This semester and next I'm taking 6 classes. And Rubble here is taking 5." Zuma thought it was weird that Rubble was taking five classes then thought that maybe Skye somehow talked him into taking five courses.
"Have you met your roommate yet?" she asked suddenly flipping her hair. Zuma just nodded. "Oh? What's he like?" he knew what Skye was doing so he just rolled his eyes. "He's..." Skye cut him off, "Is he cute? Is he gay? Is he your type? Do you want to get in his pants?" Zuma nearly choked on his frappe at hearing her questions. Although he doesn't seem like it, Zuma is gay. He blushed lightly with embarrassment as Skye gave a devious grin. "I get the feeling he doesn't like people." He replied bluntly, trying to ignore her questions. "Oh" Skye said. "So he's socially awkward?"
Zuma shrugged not wanting to talk about his roommate anymore, but Skye made a comment. "Just because someone who is socially awkward seems aloof, doesn't necessarily mean they don't want to have friends. And knowing you, you probably wouldn't put forth any effort to becoming his friend," She wasn't wrong. Zuma just thought it was too troublesome to try and make friends with someone who didn't want to talk to him.
"How do you know if he even wants to be friends?" Rubble asked causing Zuma to think about the note that Rocky had left him. He could tell the boy wanted to be his friend, he just didn't have the confidence. ' Maybe I should at least try' the chocolate-haired boy thought. "God damn it Rubble" Skye said. The blonde was pouring a ton of sugar in his coffee. "What? The lady said I could put sugar in it to make it sweeter." He continued to pour the sugar. Skye snatched the sugar away from him and took his coffee taking a sip. "This isn't even coffee anymore, its literally diabetes in a cup." She spit it out immediately and went up to the counter to get Rubble a new cup of coffee. Zuma laughed a bit as Rubble imitated Skye's infamous hair flip.
~~Rocky arrived back home before Zuma and let out a sigh of relief. If he was going to finally work up the courage to talk to someone, other than Chase, he needed to prepare himself. He slipped off his shoes and jumped onto his bed now laying on his stomach. He grabbed his journal from under his pillow and a pencil off his desk. He soon noticed that the note that he left for Zuma was no longer there on his desk but on Zuma's desk. The grey-haired boy stared for a while before a small smile found its way onto his lips.
Zuma had just gotten back to his dorm around 8pm to see Rocky sitting in his bed, writing in his journal. The grey-haired boy didn't look up until he heard the door close. He watched as Zuma walked over to his side of the room and took of his shoes off. He thought about what Chase said, how he should give people a chance, how he should at least try to talk more. he didn't know why but Chase's words echoed through his mind and before he knew it, Zuma asked, "So how was your day?" he was now sitting criss cross on his bed facing Rocky. Rocky didn't think, but instead just answered, "I-It was a-alright I guess. W-why?" he answered nervously.
"I figured since we will be living together we should get to know each other" Zuma replied with confidence that he'd want to be his friend. He didn't know why he wanted to be the grey-haired boy's friend so badly, it confused him. Confidence was always something Rocky lacked in conversation when he wasn't comfortable with the person. He needed time to get warm up to the person before he could actually function like a normal human being. "O-oh, okay" he said nervously again.
Rocky couldn't believe that he was actually having a conversation with someone other than Chase . Zuma smiled at Rocky happy that it seemed like he was right about him wanting friends. Rocky found himself blushing at the chocolate-haired boy's smile. It made him feel weird inside, but a good weird.
