Ch. 1: I Officially Hate Spiders!

It was Friday afternoon, and I was on my way home from school.  I wasn't really paying attention while walking because I was too focused on talking to my best friend Sarah. So you could blame me for running into someone, but no need to point fingers at my clumsiness.

"I know! I was...oof! Hey! Watch where you're going!"

I looked up to see the most beautiful person I've ever seen. I mean, he could be a model! And of course, the person I run into and tell off, is a cute boy. He was a little taller than me, but not by much, and he had chestnut brown hair. But the most beautiful thing about his face was his brown eyes, which had little specks of gold. Yet, they held so much sorrow and loneliness in their depth. You could lose yourself for hours in those eyes.

Then, I realized I was staring, and I blushed. "Oh! Sorry about that. That was my fault. I wasn't paying attention."

The boy just stared at me with a shocked expression on his face.

I took the moment to study his clothing, and he kind of dressed like he was a teen model. He was wearing jeans with a couple of rips in them, with a black sweater jacket that covered a black t-shirt, and he had normal tennis shoes on.

My eyes met his, and he was still staring at me, "I said sorry! No need to stare at me like that!"

"Oh, sorry. Y...you can see me?" he tilted his head a notch, which gave him a little advantage over me because let's face facts, it was really cute!

Putting that distraction aside, what's with the weird question? "Of course I can see you! Unless you made yourself invisible, and I'm supposed to not be able to see you."

"I'm not. Not making myself invisible, but you shouldn't be able to see me. That shouldn't even be possible unless..." he paused for  a second, "Are you a priestess capable of making contracts?"

"Priestess? Contracts? What are you..."

"Skylar! Who are you talking to?"

I whirled around. "Oh, Sarah! I bumped into this boy that looks like he could be a teen model, and I was apologizing." I turned around to find him gone. "Where did he go?"

Sarah laughed, "Sure you did. Come on, did you forget I'm staying over, and you're the one with the key to get in?"

"Right. Sorry. I'm coming."

We were watching "Twilight" when we heard the door open and close. I automatically assumed it was my mom, so we continued to watch the movie. Finally, we got to my favorite part, which is the end. I particularly don't like watching vampire movies because they're all a cliche. I'm only watching it cause Sarah wanted to. Lucky for her, I'm a great friend, so I can live making a few sacrifices.

"Yay, it's over! So what do you want do now"

Sarah gave me a funny look, "Watch the second one, silly!"

"Ugh, but Sarah I don't want-"

The lights cut out.

"Sarah?"

No answer.

I looked around as my eyes adjusted to see that Sarah was nowhere to be found. I walked down the stairs to see if I could find my mom or Sarah, "Mom? Sarah? This isn't funny! Where did you guys go?"

I walked into the kitchen, expecting mom to be in there. She always starts cooking dinner when she gets home, but the kitchen hadn't been touched. My mom was nowhere in sight.

"Guys if this is some kind of prank it's not funny!"

A shadow to my left moved. My head whirled in that direction to see nobody there. My heart started to pound in my chest. Crash! To my right my mom's favorite vase lay in shatters. My instincts told me to get out of the house, but I was paralyzed with fear.
