The next day, Madoka noticed that Sayaka was absent from school and began to worry. During lunch break, Madoka meet with Homura and Chaos on the roof of the school and questioned them about why she told neither her nor Sayaka about the true nature of the Soul Gem. "Would you have believed me if I did?" She asked, "I've tried telling others before, but no one ever does." "But why would Kyubey do something so cruel to us?" Madoka asked curiously. "Because it didn't think what it did was cruel." Chaos responded, "That creature doesn't understand human values or emotions for that matter." "A soul is a fair exchange for granting someone's wish." Homura uttered, "That's what it thinks anyway." "But there is nothing fair about it!" Madoka exclaimed, "What he did to her, you and all the Magical girls isn't right." "It's like making a deal with the devil. If you even know what he is or represents. But I'm going to act like you do." Chaos explained, "It might seem good at first; making the deal with him. But once you dig deep enough, it isn't as crystal clear as you thought. There are catches, duties, and as always, suffering. The wish you make might be harmless, but the price you pay for it to be granted, is not." "An agreement is still an agreement. It made the impossible possible, didn't it?" Homura asked Madoka. "But..." Madoka began to speak but was interrupted by Chaos. "Take for example Sayaka." Chaos began, "If I hadn't healed that boy's hand, she would've used her wish to fix it for him so he could play again." "How do you know that?" Homura asked surprised. "Don't you remember? You and I have been repeating the same month or so trying to stop the end from happening." "Right." She replied with a hint of suspicion. "Why do you guys always act so cold?" Madoka asked them sorrowfully. "Well, maybe I behave this way because I'm not human anymore." Homura responded dully. "I can vouch for that." Chaos replied, "Seeing your friends or people you know die over and over again. It can take a heavy toll on you. No matter who you are or what your gender is. Take the soldiers that have been in the front lines, they've seen people die in gruesome ways. Whether they be friends, innocent people caught in the middle, or enemies. Death can be extremely traumatizing for anyone. Even for me. You are more emotional about this because you haven't seen death like me or Homura have. However, being exposed to that amount of death does make us not care as much as you do."
"Could you guys, cover for me?" he asked them suddenly. "Where are you going?" Homura asked suspiciously. "It's a personal need to know matter." "Sure." Madoka replied unhappy, "We'll do our best." "Thanks." He replied with a little smile, "I'll try and come back if I can. If anything happens, call me. You have my number. He then left towards Mami's house.
Upon arriving there, he picked the lock and entered the house. He quickly went into the room where the little girl Nagisa slept. "So this is Nagisa Momoe?" He said to himself, "Huh. I thought she'd be taller. Oh well. Have to work with what I have." Chaos proceeded to wake her up from her rest, "Hey you. Wake up." "What?" she replied, "I wanna sleep. "I brought you some cheese. But since you want to sleep, I think I'll just eat it." He replied as he broke a piece off and began eating it. "Cheese?!" She replied excitedly, "Gimme!" "Only if you do something for me." He told her. "Anything." "Okay. Good. First, do you know who I am?" "Actually no. I don't." "I'm the one who saved you. The one who brought you back to your Magical girl form. At least for the time being." "Oh yeah. Mami told me about you. He told me of how you saved her from when I was a witch and me as well. Thank you." "No problem. Now for the favor, can you fight with me and the rest of the Magical girls against a powerful witch named Walpurgisnacht?" "Sure." "You do know it's going to be a hard fight. I don't think that even with me around we will win. You do have a choice of joining us or not. There's no penalty for not helping. We would understand." "You saved my life when you didn't have to. You could've killed me in my witch form, yet you decided to save me. And I'm pretty sure you're not a Magical girl so I find it strange that you could all of that but whatever. I will join you to fight that witch." "Okay. If that is your choice. I thank you." "No. Thank you Mister." "Call me Chaos or Azazel. Whichever one you like. I don't mind."
