He was frowning,

his eyes cast down at his hands.

His ring was missing.


He had it that morning

but now,

it was nowhere to be found.


It was his father's ring,

given to him before his father's treatment.

His father told him to hold onto it until he got better.

But

he never did.

His father never got better

so he kept it.

And now,

it was gone.


But,

it wasn't gone.

She had it.


He had dropped it on the sidewalk.

He had a tendency to fiddle with the ring.


Luckily, she was only a couple feet behind him and she picked up the ring.


The plan was to give it to him,

but how?

She had never directly spoken to him.



She was scared.

He was heartbroken.
