Monday,September 11thwas the babies' first doctors appointment. Megan and Joseph'sparent's watched the kids so they could take their shower and getready. They were also watching the twins so they could go to theappointment and not have to worry about four kids. The appointmentwas at 11am so Megan pumped at 10am then cleaned up. Joseph made thebabies' bottles and got the diaper bag and stroller in the car. Theygot the babies in their seats and left. They got there five minutesearly then rushed getting the babies snapped into the stroller andgetting inside. They checked them in and were taken right back to aroom. The nurse asked them to strip them down to their diapers andsaid she'd be right back.
Whenshe got back she asked for one of them to be picked up. Joseph tookCaleb over to the chairs. The nurse used a pen to mark aboveAnnabella's head then stretched her legs out and marked where herfeet were. She used a measuring tape to measure around her head thenasked Megan to pick her up and measured the marks. She was twentyinches long. The nurse asked to take her and put her on the scale. She weighed her at 6lbs. The nurse handed her back to Megan and askedfor Caleb. Megan wrapped Annabella in her blanket and the nurse didthe same thing with Caleb. He was 6lbs 5oz and twenty-one and a halfinches.
Shesaid the doctor would be in in a few minutes and left. Joseph wrappedCaleb in his blanket. "Switch with me please, Baby" Megansaid. They switched babies then sat down. A few minutes later Dr.Smith came in and said, "Hello guys. How are you?" "Sleepdeprived but as we know that's normal. Other than that we're good. How about you?" Megan said. "I've been good. Thanks forasking. Let's see these little ones" Dr. Smith said. Megan andJoseph stood up and showed her the babies. "They're adorable"Dr. Smith said. Megan and Joseph both said thank you. "Let'shave Annabella first please" Dr. Smith said.
Josephwent and laid her on the table and the doctor examined her. Shestarted fussing toward the end. Joseph got her pacifier and gave itto her. When she was done Dr. Smith picked her up and held her. "Areyou breastfeeding?"Dr. Smith asked. "No but I'm pumping andthey get breast milk in bottles. They take about two ounces everyhour and a half" Megan said. "How often do you changethem?" the doctor asked. "Right after they are done eatingso every hour and a half then whenever they need to be changed"Joseph said. "How about sleep? How are they sleeping?" thedoctor asked. "They are usually awake to eat then they go backto sleep but sometimes they stay up for a few minutes and we talk andcoo at them then they get fussy and we rock them until their drowsyand lay them down in their bassinet" Joseph said.
"Theysleep on their backs right?" Dr. Smith asked. "Yes"Joseph said. "Good. I need to see Caleb now please" Dr.Smith said. Joseph took Annabella and sat in the chair with her, wrapping her in her blanket and giving her the bottle. Megan tookCaleb out of the blanket and laid him on the table. Dr. Smith did herexamination then asked, "Do you want him circumcised?" "Yeswe do" Megan said. "When was the last time he ate?"Dr. Smith asked. "About an hour and a half. He's due for afeeding now" Megan said. "Well don't feed him yet and we'lldo the circumcision now. I'll be right back" the doctor said.
Sheleft the room and a minute or two later came back in with a nursecarrying the bed with the straps, the syringe and the bottle ofmedicine. She had Megan pick Caleb up then the nurse put the bed downand got the straps set up while the doctor drew up the medicine. Thenurse had Megan lay Caleb on the bed and she strapped him in. Hestarted fussing and Megan gave him the pacifier. She held it for himwhile Dr. Smith did the circumcision. As soon as she got his diaperback on and unstrapped him Megan picked him up and rocked him whilewalking over to get his bottle. "You guys know the routine. Keepit as clean and dry as possible, once the umbilical cord falls offEpsom salt in the bath water to soak. Don't pull the gauze off. Itwill come off on it's own. Other than that see you when they're twomonths" Dr. Smith said.
