The next morning......
I wake up and shift back to a human. I walk out of the cave and to the cabin where we would eat breakfast. Karla and Maddy were there making breakfast. "Good morning" I greet. "Good morning" they reply. "I hope you slept well" said Karla. "I slept great. Actually, better than I have in a long time". And it was true. Every night in pack Black Claw was full of worriness and tread. Although my parents were the alphas, life wasn't too great. Jake and his family and friends would constantly torture me.
"Um for breakfast, don't you ever go hunting?" I ask. Karla and Maddy laugh. "Of course. But we also make our own breakfast. It's a bit more civilized" Maddy answers. There was nothing civilized in my old pack. "Cool" I comment. "Where are the other wolves?". "Well, we eat in our groups. The alphas and the betas, the fighters, hunters and pups" Karla replies. No omegas? I guess Maddy read my mind. "We have no omegas, in our pack. We're all equal". I smile.
"Breakfast is ready. Come on Alice. You're eating with the betas and Shane" Karla says. I nod. "Sure, I guess".
I help with taking the plates of breakfast to the neighbouring cabin, where the other Shifters were waiting. I could feel everyone's eyes on me. I felt weird, but helping was the least thing I could do. Although, I doubt I would ever find a way to repay these people.
Soon, everyone was munching on scrambled eggs, toast, pancakes and cups of steaming coffe and tea. When everyone was done, Shane announces a meeting. "Everyone please meet me in my cave for a meeting. We have some important things to talk about, that need to be dealt with as fast as possible". My stomach churns. I feel like im going to throw up.
But, everyone gets up from their seats and walk to the cave. "Come on, Alice" Karla says taking my arm. Maddy takes my other and we follow everyone else.
The cave we walk in to is large. Probably 3 times bigger than mine. We all shift to wolves and stand in a circle. Shane speaks first. "As you all know, we have a visitor joining us today. Everyone welcome Alice". Everyone clapped, then he continued. "She has some issues concerning her old pack, that she is sure will kick her out, so we need to decide how we can help her. Of course, we have to do something as pack Blue Moon, to solve her problems". Everyone stays silent. I start to feel very uncomfortable and hold my breath. Then someone speaks up. "Maybe we can solve whatever is going on between her pack and her". My stomach churns. NO WAY! Please no! Then I would have to tell them I was from pack Black Claw.
"Alright, any other suggestions?" Shane asks. The whole time he was talking, he didn't even glance my way. Someone else speaks up. "How about we have her go join the humans?". What? Humans? Maybe that wouldn't be so bad. Some I've heard are really nice but people like the Hunters? I shudder at the thought as tears burn my eyes. No. I can't cry here. Not in front of all these wolves.
"Okay, anyone else?" Shane asks. Then, Maddy says the thing I was wishing for this whole time. "Can't she stay here with us?". Hope fills up inside of me. Shane stays quiet, so does everyone else in the cave. It feels like eternity. Every second that passes, lessens my hope of ever staying here. Finally he speaks.
"I'm not sure about that Maddy. What do all of you think?" He says. "I think it's okay" says one person. "Whatever you think is best, Alpha" says another. "She seems harmless" says a third.
"Alright, I'll take your thoughts into consideration, but I need time to make the final decision" Shane decides. Everyone nods. "You may all leave". They all walk out. I stay standing, rooted onto the spot. Maddy shifts back. "Come on Alice" she whispers. "No. Maddy go, I need to talk to Alice" Shane tells her. She nods, smiles at me and leaves. I shift back to human and keep my head hung down, very interested in a bug passing by.
