Monday morning
Over the weekend my dad made a phone call to his lawyer asking about probation sentences for 18 year olds and turns out the judge ruled Aiden could come back the second week of school he just didn't. I woke up feeling confident my outfit was a white dress and olive jacket with white converse. A little dressy but today was the day Aiden came back and I had to look good I curled my hair and put it half up. I did my makeup and bounced downstairs. Maxwell was sitting at the table eating a waffle and my mother was making some weird smoothie. I grabbed an orange and said goodbye to my family and skipped out to my car. I skipped Starbucks to be early so I could make a plan. I was texting Aiden all weekend and he showing up to school two minutes before the first bell rings, that's when the most people are out and when the burnouts aka Vick and Marley are meeting by the flag pole right in the center. My plan is to be by the stairs and walk up to Aiden and the he said it would be better if I rode with him. I got that text a few blocks from school so I parked at a movie theatre and waited for Aiden. He showed up to get me wearing a white shirt black jeans and a leather jacket a signature of his. I made sure no one knew he was coming the less who knew the more shocked faces when he showed up. "So Mr. Probation I know you could have came back earlier but chose not too. Why is that?" I ask picking at my nail. He shrugged "would you go back?" He made a good point. "I wanna say I wouldn't if I had the choice". "But I also know you were let off for good behavior and that doesn't sound very characteristic of you".
"I did what I had to. That place was hell." He didn't look me in the eyes.
The time came to head to school and I was more nervous than I thought I would be. I made Chloe swear on her channel bag that she wouldn't say anything to anyone. "Omg I'm not that bad at keeping a secret" she had said whining. She was ignorant of her flaw apparently. The parking lot came in view three minutes till the bell it's show time. The beat up chevy was a staple of Aiden and it drew attention. Everyone turned to look at the car that held the baddest boy at Kingsley, and me Veronica Grey the most popular girl to walk the halls in the history of High school. Us together was a cliche that every high school needed. He got out first followed by me I was walking forward and my waist was grabbed and Aiden kissed me deeply. It took me a second to register but when I did I kissed him back. I had to admit for a boy with a drug l problem he was a good kisser. He let me go and I turned to the flag. Vick was standing there with his fists clenched and his arm firmly around Marley. His glare bore into the both of us and victory fireworks went off in my brain. "See ya later princess" Aiden smirked and walked toward the burnout boys who had left Vicks side to greet him. I met with my group and was bombarded with questions.
"Is he a good kisser?" - Chloe
"Where did he come from" - Evelyn
"you're gonna get aids" - Katie
I didn't answer them I just smiled and headed to English. I only had Art and Geometry with Aiden but we had lunch together and that was the main thing. English came and went and I found myself still using acronyms instead of full words. Not surprisingly Aiden skipped Geometry. But lunch was upon us and that was the social hour that mattered in my scheme.
I couldn't break the code of no boys at the table but I could sit with Aiden at a different table. Katie wasn't too happy but I don't think she would approve of my plan. "First day back and you're already skipping?" I say picking a strawberry from my salad. "What did you expect" he smirked flinging a piece of bread at Mrs. Hoffman. My eyes flashed toward the door where Vick was entering, I guess Aiden saw it too because his chest puffed and his jaw clenched. The testosterone levels increased by 1000 and the whole place seemed to hush. Their eyes met and I found myself holding my breathe. Slowly Vick walked toward us Marley not to far behind smiling like she was a golden retriever. Of course she's happy she's fucked both of these guys and she thinks they're fighting over her. Stupid bitch I thought as they reached the table Aiden stood up even though Vick was taller Aiden showed no no sign of intimidation. "Ranshaw" Vick growled. "Hey Vick buddy long time no see" something made Aiden feel like he had the upper hand and my guess that it was me. "You're back I see" Vick looked at me. I kept a straight face but it was hard not to smile. "Yeah something drew me back" Aiden looked at me and smiled then I smiled back no longer needing the straight face. "Wow I just thought you had better taste then that" Vick sneered at me. Eavesdroppers gasped and Aiden's eyes went dark. I panicked thinking Aiden wouldn't come back and we would loose the very first day. "Well anything is a step up from your girlfriend" Aiden waved at Marley who managed to loose her smile. I laughed along with the rest of the crowd. Vick didn't like that he started to raise his fist but Marley cut in and held it down. I have to admit I was grateful for that because although Aiden can talk I was worried if the fight got physical he would certainly loose. I followed Marley and grabbed Aiden's hand urging him to sit down. He stayed standing, and then I realized this fight isn't about me and even though i brought him back I wasn't the reason Aiden was fighting. "Well this has been lovely but my doctor told me not to hang out around too much artificial dye and Marley reeks of fake so can we go" I ask Aiden slipping my hand into his. My touch snaps him back and he nods still maintaining eye contact with Vick he grabbed my hand and we left the room. When we were outside Aiden slammed his hand into a locker. "Damn it Roni" he growled. "What?" I asked. "You brought me back and now I have to deal with this again" he complained punching the locker again. "Hey I didn't drag you here, you agreed and I tried to stop you" I say my fight is weak because I can tell he's upset and I don't want to make it worse. "Please calm down" I put my hand on his shoulder, he turned pushing my chin up with his hand and pushing his lips on mine. He dropped his shoulders and his body relaxed. I released the breathe I wasn't aware I was holding. That's not the only thing I released, I released Aiden and now he's free to fight with Vick again and Marley won't always hold Vicks fist down. "Maybe this wasn't a good idea" that was supposed to be in my head but he heard it anyway. "It was an awful idea" he shook his head. "Vick was my best friend" he sat on the floor. I did remember the two of them fucking around freshman year, before Marley and drugs and fights those two were inseparable. When they stopped speaking Vick got cold and dark. I knew that Aiden missed their friendship but I wasn't sure that Vick did. The hallway was deserted and I was glad that lunch wasn't over. "Maybe I could talk to him" suggesting that wasn't my brightest idea but then again neither was thinking using Aiden to make Vick jealous was going to work.
