Chapter 5

"Hello. I'm Drew Ivory. CIA."

CIA? What? Why?

"Do not panic. I'm here just to ask you a few questions," he says reading the confused expression on my face.

"Alright," I say gulping.

I try sitting up-right but I couldn't. I feel weak. After much trials, I give up. At last, he helps me.

"I'll be handling this case," he says, waiting for my reaction.

I nod in approval.

"Let me start," he looks at me.

"So, Ms. Ashlyn Carter, may I know where were you last night?"

"I went to a party," I say.

"Alone?"

"No. With my friend, Melina."

The next words he says scare me.

"I'm afraid I have to say this. Ms. Philins has gone missing," he continues when I don't say anything. "We made a note on all the guests who had been there last night. Unfortunately, we couldn't trace your friend."

"But.. But she was r-right there-there with... me," I stutter.

Mel is missing. I feel torn apart. My face seems to look emotionless. I wish she was here. I wish I could hear her say that it's okay, that we'll get through this and we're in this together.

Melina! Where are you!?

I burst out crying. Tears rolled down my cheeks.

"I know this is hard, but you have to control yourself."

I can't begin to tell what I feel right now. I don't stop. I cry, letting it all out.

Why is everything going so wrong with me?!

"Ms. Carter. Are you alright?"

Can't you see I'm not?

I don't answer him. I just stare at his blank face.

"I guess we could finish it next time," he says and leaves the room.

I see the nurse entering. She stands near my bedside and takes out a syringe. She then pinches my skin, pushing the needle all the way into the skin. Injecing the insulin slowly and steadily until it is all in. The syringe is in place for a few seconds and then ejected out. It hurts, but I feel numb.

I slowly drift away to sleep.

"I think she's awake. Her eyes are fluttering," I hear a male voice.

I slowly open my eyes, to a new surrounding. I recall the events that took place.

"Will be it okay, if I interrogate her now?"

I raise my head to find Mr. Ivory standing beside my bed with the doctor.

"Are you feeling good, Miss?"

Am I?

I just nod my head.

I'm tired of waking up in such horrifying conditions. I need to be alright. I need to know what, all this is about.

"You may start your query," I say, with a confidence I don't quite feel.

He stares at me for a minute and pulls out a piece of paper from his suit pocket.
