On The Sixth Day of Christmas, Santa gave to Me... One life-depending meeting.
XxRhysxX
And so at three o' clock, we left the HQ in Luna Delilah's care as we embark on our search. I concentrate on the sound of my paws slapping against the road. We have split up and decide on our strategy to surround the enemies. Alpha Kyle and I maintain a brisk trot as we walk along the seperation line of the territories.
I have a bag of shorts for me and Kyle slung across my body for back-up needs. There is also a blanket for Mckenna- Just in case.
"Nearing the area, Alpha," Justin alerts Kyle through mind-link.
"Noted, Justin. Have one wolf in every search group to have a head start to the house. We want to make sure they're surrounded first," Kyle said back.
We could all hear their conversation as they didn't shut us out, so I assume the representative wolves have already started their head start.
"Nyahh!! Just walk already, b**** !!" A harsh voice echoes from the deeper end of the forest. The exact location to where we're haeding. A heavy thump came after that. Then, followed by a muffled cry.
Kyle and I exchange glances. "Group reps at the ready." Kyle mind-links everyone.
"Ready, Alpha," seven steady and firm responses came in turn.
"Good. Okay now, I want one of you to observe the surroundings. What and who is in the area. I suggest rep number five, as you are closest to the opening."
"Yes, Alpha," representative number five says. Across the clearing I could see a sandy brown wolf in the bushes scanning the crowd. "She's here, Alpha. But, I don't think she looks that good." Five paused. She's here! We're so close. "There's a guy beside her, holding on to some ropes. His second, I think, is holding a gun pointing directly at group seven. There are two others also with guns, but they are moving it around. His other followers are surrounding the four."
"Ropes. What ropes?"
"Not sure, sir. But it looks like there are ropes around Mckenna's neck, wrists and ankles. "
I gasp. My wolf is whimpering. I am whimpering.
What have they done to her ?! I NEED to go down there and save her NOW!
"Not yet, Rhys," Kyle says.
I nod, but reluctantly. I have to hold my wolf down from springing into action.
"Five, thank you. You may go back to your position. Now, everyone listen. On three, I want groups six to twelve to run right at them and surround them. Groups one to five, attack when necessary," Kyle says authoritively. "Rhys and I will go straight to Mckenna. Also, I want the Hunters- whichever group you belong to- to keep Trexon and the other three that was with him as far from Mckenna once we're in. Everyone got it?"
"Understood, Alpha," we all say in unision.
"Ready. One..."
I crouch low and keep my concentration on Mckenna.
"Two..."
I take a deep breath.
"Three!" I spring forward and launch myself into the center of the enemy circle.
I growl at the enemies in my way and slash my way through the crowd. My eyes immediately locate Mckenna, lying lifelessly on the ground with her hair covering her face. The Huntes are fending off Trexon and his followers from Mckenna.
We totally took them by surprise. We can take them down easily.
Kyle and I run towards Mckenna and shift back to human form. We hastily slip on our back-up shorts that we brought along. Hey- at least we had the decency of not to flash everyone our you-know-whats during the attack.
Kyle grabbed a fallen knife and cut Mckenna free from the binds. I drop down beside Mckenna and hug her to me. A tear slid down my face. "What did they do to you?" I whisper. When I let go of her, I see her wounds; a stab at her side, poorly tended to ;her broken leg ;the bruises on her body and neck ;scratches here and there. "She's cold," I tell Kyle. "Why is she so wet?"
I take the blanket from my bag and wrap it around Mckenna, careful not to hurt her wounds.
"Bring her back to the house," Kyle orders in his Alpha tone.
I frown. "What about you and the pack?"
"We'll handle the troublemakers." Kyle looks around. "I'll call a few wolves to accompany you two home."
When I look around, I see the second and third in command Hunters and Scouts and two other guard wolves. They are all in wolf form. They look at Kyle and bow their heads in respect.
Kyle puts a hand on my shoulder. "Be careful." He run off and transform into his wolf, tearing the enemies apart in one sharp move. I carefully and gently lift Mckenna in my arms.
I kiss her dirt-stained forehead and sigh ruefully. "I'm sorry I left you alone, my sweet angel." I look at Mckanna longingly. "Let's go," I say to my company. The nod and form a little circle of protection around me and Mckenna. A Hunter and a Scout at each of my sides and a guard- one in front to lead the way and one behind us.
I carry Mckenna- who is super light for her age - into the forest and out of the territory. It was a silent journey back to the HQ.
As we walk closer and closer to the HQ, a though flew into my mind. Did Kyle find out about Mckenna? Did he realize that she was human?
The guard wolf in front shifts back into human form and grabs a pair of shorts from the tree-locker and slips them on. The tree-locker is where we stash our extra shorts. Free sized so that anyone can wear them. But it's only when we don't have extra with us, that is.
He walks to the front door and opens it quietly. He gestures us to go in quickly. The guard wolf then goes to his friend to search our surroundings- just to ensure that nobody unwanted followed us back here. The two Hunters follow me in. The Scouts leaves us to assist the guard wolves.
I half jogged into the kitchen where I know Luna Delilah and my younger twin sisters Kaediss and Kandiss will be there to help. They gasp when I walk through the door but jump into action once I set Mckenna down onto the table. I notice that Mckenna is paler than before.
"So she is human," Delilah whispers in awe, putting a hand softly to Mckenna's forehead.
"Will she be alright?" I ask Delilah with worry.
Delilah looks at me and nods. "She is exceptionally lucky. If she were to be a wolf, though, then she would have already died."
"What?"
"The blade of the knife she was stabbed with," she says, her hands deftly untieing the knots of Mckenna's self-made bandage. "Was made from silver. I suppose the silver never managed to go into her system as Trexon had hoped. But as I said, she is lucky. Even as a human she could have died."
"But she didn't," I insisted.
"No, she did not. Thank Goodness." She looks at Mckenna lovingly. "Have you told Kyle about her?"
I look down guiltily at my hands. "No, I'm sorry, I did not."
"You would have to- soon." She smiles apologetically. "I'm sure Kyle will understand."
I tenderly stroke Mckenna's cheek with the back of my hand. "I hope so."
