As I look at my hands drenched in a thick red substance that my mind refuses to be the blood of someone, I don’t know who. I want to cry out and scream but I can’t.

“Jae!!”

I look around my surroundings trying to find the source of the voice but I get greeted with a sudden, unknown source of pain in my abdomen area and darkness.

5hrs earlier

“Come in,”

“Hey Jae,” Zach said.

“Oh, it’s you. I thought it was a general or Devin. You can’t sleep huh?” I asked him

“Yeah, I couldn’t, you?”

I gave him a ‘duh’ look and moved my arms to represent myself as if I was saying, ‘I’m awake aren’t I?’

He just laughed and bid me goodbye and told me to get ready.

I put on black tights, combat boots and a black singlet, my usual. Comfortable and flexible, perfect for fighting and running. Even though we were changing into protective, mission suits later, it was better to be ready than sorry. I looked at myself in the wall mirror, a small face with a ‘v’ line jaw, long lashes, and long brown hair cascading down to my waist. I tied my hair into a high pony tail gave myself a body check. Am I ready for this mission? Heck yeah, this is the whole reason why I escaped Aberrant, to give justice to those citizens that don’t know anything about the Circles lies. This is what I trained and sacrificed for. If I wasn’t ready then, what was I doing these past 2 years?

I walk out of my door into the eerily, empty corridor. No one in sight and no noises except the ones from the heel of my combat boots meeting the cold floor. As I turn the corner I bump into Devin,

“Good morning, you head off to the meeting room, I just have to finalise a few things,” Devin says chirpily.

That man has so much energy

“Alright Devin, good morning to you too,” I said with a small smile.

Once I entered the meeting room I was greeted by everyone except Devin.

General Daley clears his throat and says, “We are going to head up to the land hover now, follow General Wayne and I’ll follow behind. Devin said that he’ll meet us there.”
