Do not put too much of yourself into your character.

This is something that I've had hardships with. It's just hard for me not to meddle with my character's personality by mixing it with my own. Don't get me wrong. It's actually good to scatter bits and pieces of yourself into the story and the characters. However, avoid thinking things like

"But that would be extremely embarrassing if he did that."

"It's so easy to forgive him, so she should."

Remember to ALWAYS write in your character's perpective and not in your own.

It may be easy for YOU to forgive a cheating boyfriend, but remember that your character has gone through experiences that are different from yours. For example, a character that has already been cheated on multiple times, may not be much more forgiving this time.
