Over the past year Harry and Draco had somehow became friends. After Harry had spoken at his trial Draco felt indebted to him. So when he went back to eighth year and saw Potter he just really wanted to say thank you or well...he tried too. Instead, while standing in front of Potter in an empty common room at three at the morning (because they both couldn't sleep), he broke down in tears.

That's what really started this friendship because Potter stayed with him and patted his shoulder as he cried and after he had calmed down Draco found himself telling Potter everything. That morning Draco learned that they both had more in common than he had ever thought. And when Potter threw in a stupid joke at five in the morning he found himself laughing for the first time in a very long time.

Then Harry sat with him at breakfast when no one else did and soon after that his friends joined as well, but it was always Harry who sat beside him and everyone knew it. They sat beside each other in classes and worked surprising well together. Conversation came easy to them, they made jokes and just seemed to understand each other. In essence became best friends.

But now Draco had a problem, he was starting to like Harry, he was beginning to notice things. Like the way his eyes crinkle up when he smiled. Or how he always worried on his bottom lip when he concentrated. Or even that he liked poetry but only when it was read out loud to him.

That last one Draco had found out about because he was sitting with a new poetry book open and was trying to find the pattern of the words in correlation with each other. Then he fell silent.
"Keep going" Harry had said, who was sitting on his bed with abandoned homework on his lap.
"What?" Draco asked confused, he didn't really notice Harry was there because he had become so used to his presence.
"Keep reading it out, I like it when you read it out"
"You can read it if you want" Draco offered.
"No, I want to hear people read poetry not read it myself, you're really good at it"
"Okay then you weirdo" Draco said.
But then he did read it out and Harry slowly shuffled closer until they were sitting side by side on the bed with shoulders touching. Harry's head rested on Draco's shoulder and Draco smiled a little.
"You'd better have not fallen asleep" Draco muttered. But of course, Harry had.

They fell asleep together like that and soon they found themselves becoming increasingly touchy feely. Sometimes when they were on Draco's bed Harry would scotch close enough that their thighs touched. Sometimes when they went out to Hogsmete Harry would put his arm around Draco to 'keep him warm'. Draco had rolled his eyes at this but welcomed the embrace fully.

At some point they had both taken to cuddling at night, with Harry curled up with his back pressed snugly against Draco's chest and well they hadn't really stopped. In fact they were acting very much so like a couple but they totally weren't...right?

Sure they shared clothes, cuddled, spent copious amounts of time with each other and held hands. But that last one was only once and it was strictly because Draco's hands were getting cold...inside the castle, under the duvet, but it was just friendship...right?

Everyone in Eighth year was just waiting till they both realised that maybe, most definitely, they were dating. But Ron had had enough, it had been months now and neither of them realised just how sickening sweet they were so it was time for some action.

"Hey Harry" Ron greeted, as he spotted Harry sitting in the library clicking through a book.
Harry looked up from his work and smiled at Ron. "Oh hey"
"What are you doing?" Ron asked, sitting down next to Harry.
"Trying to research a potion I could get for Draco for Christmas"
"Right...um Harry will you be honest with me?" Ron asked tentively.
Harry closed his book "yeah...why what's wrong"
"Do you like Draco?"
There was a beat of silence before Harry laughed a bit and replied "of course, he's funny, we get along.."
Ron sighed.
"I mean like like"
There was a longer pause.
"What are you trying to get at Ron?" Harry asked confused.
Ron stood up exacerbated and exclaimed "you're practically dating!"
Harry stared at him and then blinked a few times.
"Wait...I mean we're just.."
"Are you kidding me? You cuddle, you hold hands you share clothes and those love eyes are just so obvious I want to scream"
"I...um...but we're just.."
Ron threw his hands up in the air in defeat and then walked off.

That was absurd right? I mean sure he had really nice hair, he smelled good, his smile was really nice and his hands fitted perfectly...oh....okay I see what Ron means. But I mean wait...dammit.

"Something's wrong" Draco stated, standing in front of  Harry with his hands on his hips.
"No, I'm fine" Harry tried, looking very passionately at his book.
"Harry James Potter you look me in the eyes and say that again"
Harry gulped and kept his eyes down.
"Right you young man are telling me right this instinct"
"I mean...okay just what exactly are we?" Harry trailed off.
There was a silence for a second and Harry's heart was thumping in his chest.
"What do you mean?" Draco asked his voice slightly high.
Harry felt his cheeks burn and took a deep breath in.
"Like do you think we're more than...friends?"
There was another silence before Harry sensed Draco crouching down before him.
"Harry" Draco said softly and that's when Harry broke.
"It's just I think I might like you more than friends and I don't know how you feel but I don't want to ruin whatever we've already got and...I...what are you doing?" Harry broke off.
He broke off because Draco had somehow grasped both of Harry's hands in his own and was gently rubbing his thumb over Harry's knuckles.
"Well I think that I like you more than friends too" Draco said calmly.
Harry blinked.
"So...Um.." Harry tried.
Draco smiled warmly at him and moved one of his hand onto Harry's cheek.
Moving far too close to Harry's face Draco tilted his head and spoke softly.
"Well I think what I'm going to do next will help you decide what we are"
And then Draco's eyes shifted down and then back up and Harry's heart stopped. Draco's eyes fluttered shut and then in an infuriating longest and shortest time ever his lips pressed slowly up against Harry's.
It was so soft and gentle, the touch was barely there but that just made it all that much more intense.
Harry kissed back, savouring the taste and feel of Draco's lips on his.
As they broke apart Harry smiled.
"You'd better be my boyfriend Malfoy or else" Harry teased.
Draco laughed "Seeing as that said so nicely Potter, I would love to be"

Outside, peeking in, Ron rolled his eyes fondly and shook his head in amusement. Only they would be like that.
