4.

I sat on the couch staring at the wall,
Oh how much I missed your calls.
I'm dying, you know?
Not from sickness or old age,
But from a broken heart from your marriage.
I heard you moved to Edolas,
Look at how quickly time can pass.
Just please come back,
Before my world fades to black.

Lucy sighed and leaned back on her couch, gazing blankly at the tv screen. It's been about a year already since the wedding, and the pain has finally dulled down a bit. At least it did before she received an invitation to Natsu's and Lisanna's one year anniversary party. It was being held in the city they now lived in, Edolas. Fairytail was going, so she had to go as well. She wasn't looking forward to it, and to think she was finally getting better.

Natsu ran a hand through his pink hair, as he sat in his car in an empty parking lot. He just had another fight with Lisanna, the twelfth one since their marriage. Right now he really wished he kept in better contact with his friends, or more importantly his best friend, Lucy. She always knew what to do, how to make him feel better, but now he was alone. He began to think about his fight with Lisanna, it was about their anniversary party. Lisanna wanted it to be family only, but Natsu barely had any family to begin with so he invited his other family, Fairytail. Lisanna was more than angry, she was seething. Maybe it was that time of month? He honestly didn't know why she reacted that way, she had no bad blood with any of them and knew about the little blood related family he had.

He only had his older brother and a nephew named Rahkeid. Zeref and Mavis has gotten married only months before him and Lisanna, and had a baby boy just around last month. Natsu's parents died when he was in 10th grade in a car accident, so he didn't have any other relatives other than that. Natsu snapped out of his pity party when he heard soft taps against his window, looking up he saw it was raining and only getting harder as it carried on. The rain triggered a memory for him, a memory he'll never forget.

Flashback

An eight year old Natsu watched from inside the school at the downpour going on outside, it had begun raining and the pink haired child didn't have an umbrella to walk home with. He looked at the time on the clock and saw he had been standing there for almost 20 minutes. Sighing, he prepared to make a run for it but before he could take a step into the rain a light pink umbrella with hearts on it covered his head, shielding him from the rain. He looked to his left and saw a blonde girl no older than him, smiling at him while holding the umbrella. He realized she was beginning to get soaked as the umbrella couldn't cover both of them with the distance between them, so he moved closer.

"H-hi! I'm Lucy Heartfilia, what's your name?" She greeted shyly.

"I'm Natsu Dragneel! Thanks for sharing your umbrella!" Natsu said, much louder.

"Oh uhm no problem." Lucy gave a small smile. "Let's walk together."

Natsu nodded and the two children began walking, Lucy dropped Natsu off before she continued on to her own house. That was the day their friendship began.

Flashback End

Natsu stare became sad as the memory left, leaving behind nothing but the realization of what he really lost. He checked the time and saw it was 12:34 am, he was in no mood to go back to his house anytime soon, so he decided to go somewhere else, he started his engine and began the half hour drive to Fiore.

Lucy woke up to a knock on her door and checked the time, 1:14 am. She growled and got up, grabbing a baseball bat from behind her room door. Whoever was trying to mess with her was gonna get a beating, the only exception would be if it were one of her friends. Peering through the blinds on the window of the door, she saw a face she never expected to see. Opening the door she stared at the man on her doorstep in awe, yet a million questions ran through her head.

"N-Natsu!?"

Instead of replying he simply brought her into a hug  as he walked in to her house, closing the door behind him.

"Hey Luce." He said quietly, the nickname made her heart skip a beat.

"Natsu what are your doing here? And at this hour you idiot?! Come sit down!" She said and pulled him to the couch.

She made some tea and sat beside him, holding her mug. She looked at her life long crush and best friend, he took that as a sign to start his explanation. He told her everything, about the fights, his unhappiness in his marriage and ended it off with apology after apology. By the time his story was done their tea was finished and only dry stains were left. Lucy looked at him with slight sympathy, she did still care for him after all. She decided the best thing to do was give him a hug, which he responded to immediately. Suddenly he began shaking, and Lucy felt her shirt become damp. Natsu was crying, and at that moment she realized he was just as broken as she was. Maybe for not as long, but still broken.

Natsu had stayed the night, and had to leave to explain to his wife why he was gone. He hadn't told Lucy yet, but he was planning on divorcing Lisanna. The marriage was only bringing pain to both of them and it was time they ended it, but there was something he needed to do before he left. As he walked out the door he spun around and gave Lucy a quick peck on the lips.

"See you soon, Luce." He said, giving her a wink.

The blonde could only nod and watch him drive off , all the while she had an astonished look on her face. As he drove off a grin broke out on her face, but quickly faded. What about Lisanna? Shaking the thought away she decided to be happy for once and smiled, this was the start of their new beginning.
