Prologue

Once upon a time, when Ulla had first ventured out of the castle, hell bent on experiencing something outside of her sheltered life she was caught unaware by the harshness of the outside world.

In fear she had darted off into the forest, not taking note of the darkening surroundings until she came to what looked to a small oasis among the dark trees. At this oasis there was a small deer, sipping from the pool of water and in a moment of naivety she neared the deer, wanting to see if it’s coat was as soft as it looked. 

But this was no normal deer, when a branch cracked under her feet the deer slowly turned it’s head toward her with it’s eyes glowing red and growling an awful sound.

Ulla had been frozen in fear and had it not been for a young fairy swooping down from the trees above she would not have survived. When she was taken out of the deer's reach and was brought back to safer ground she got a good look at the boy, he couldn’t be older than 12 and she fell in love instantly.

Following this they became the best of friends. Spending long days together when Ulla managed to get away from the castle.

On the day of her 16th birthday Ulla made a request from the now 14 year old Maleficent. A birthday kiss.

Thinking it was nought but a joke Maleficent conceded to give her a kiss and burst into giggles before his lips ever left hers.

Heartbroken at the prospect that her first love didn’t share her feelings Ulla broke out in a rage and in a fit of madness tore Maleficent’s long black wings from his body.

Leaving Maleficent bleeding and confused Ulla made her way back to the castle with Maleficent’s wings in tow and never returned to see Maleficent again.

Maleficent, also brokenhearted after losing his best friend, became jaded and cold. His heart seemingly impenetrable because of the Princess's temper.
