The Rising Champion

chapter 1- packing up

   Today is Wednesday its a cooler fall day in New York, but Kate could care less because she leaves tomorrow for Capital challenge with her 6 year old Canadian warmblood, Sampson! They compete in the children's jumpers together, they would be showing in the $10,000 child/adult jumper challenge cup on Saturday! Kate just got to the barn around 4 o'clock because she did school in the morning (she does online school) then went to her work (she works on a dairy farm). Kate went into the barns bathrooms and changed out if her jeans and into tan tailored sportsman's breeches and a black V-neck shirt, then she put on her freshly polished Ariat schooling tall boots, and her GPA first lady helmet! She put her bag in her cubby and got out her grooming supplies. She walked to her geldings stall, he nickered when he saw her she grabbed his leather halter off the hooks and slid it onto his black face she walked him to a grooming stall where she had put her grooming box. At Kate's barn if you wanted the grooms to tack up for you they would but Kate liked spending the time with Sampson! She grabbed a black curry comb out of the box and started currying over his freshly clipped body (she clipped him 3 days ago) she did that over his whole body then used a hard brush over his body, then she wtebt over him with a towel. She then brushed his mane and forelock and then picked his feet. Kate walked back into the tack room grabbing her custom CWD saddle and gray Ogilvy half pad and black Back On Track saddle pad with her professional choice girth, she also grabbed her CWD schooling bridle! She walked back out and tacked up right before she put his bridle on her phone rang, it was her best friend Olivia calling her (also going to indoors and competing against her)  she answered her phone
****on phone***
Kate: "hey what's up?"
Olivia: " hey do you wanna go out to dinner after we're done at the barn?"
Kate: " sure you can sleep over if you want since my house is closer to the barn and we have to be here by 4:45am"
Olivia: " yeah I'm almost at the barn but my mom can bring my stuff back to the barn since I'm already packed!"
Kate: "okay perfect, we can ride together if you hurry"
Olivia: " yeha I had one of the grooms tack up Azur for me because I knew i was going to be in a rush"
Kate: "okay perf"
Olivia: " look up"
I looked up and Olivia was walking into the barn. We hung up
****end phone call***
Olivia already had her helmet and boots on, I realized I forgot to wrap his legs so I asked Olivia to hold him for me quickly . I went and got my Back On Track white polo wraps and quickly wrapped his legs by that time Azur was ready so we walked down to ring 2 were our trainer Heather was.
Heather: " hey girls how are you?"
We answered good
Heather: " I want you two to just do a a quick 15 minute hack but make sure they are really working" we said okay then got on.

   I put my foot in my black Free Jump stirrups and swung into the saddle, i set a timer then turned on Florida Georgia Line album on my phone and after 2 laps of walking I got to work! Sampson was a fiery young hot jumper so he was a lot of work but I loved it and him!
