Chapter 9: On the 12th day of Christmas

December 25,2016

"Hiccup"Rapunzel knocks on his bedroom door

"Yeah?"Hiccup opens the door and she walks in.

Rapunzel sits on an arm chair and looks at Hiccup.

"What?"He asks confused

"Are you okay?"She asks him

"Yeah,why?"

She takes a deep breath

"Did you have feelings for Merida?"She asked

"I got over it months ago, why do you ask?"Hiccup raised an eyebrow.

"Are you okay? We're worried about you"She said

"I'm okay.Merida died a long time ago"He smiles
"She hated me anyways"

"You know,she told me herself that she didn't hate you"She told him

"Really?"

"Yes,she said that she avoided you at first because of a problem"

"What problem?"

"She wouldn't tell us"She shakes her head
"But she said that she was warming up to you and that she enjoyed your company even if you didn't interact at all"

He sighed

"She never hated you, Hiccup. You know that. She talked to me about her problems and I suggest that you could share yours. I'm a good listener and I can help you"

"Since when were you my mother?"

"I'm everyone's mother. Besides, I'm older than all of you and don't pretend that I don't see that face every time you pass her room"

They laugh for a few seconds until silence once again fills the room.

"Well, if it was meant to be, I would see her again"

"Hiccup, we're in a place of magic. Anything could happen"

"Anything could happen,but not everything"He says, ruffling his hair.
"But, it's okay. I'll just live alone until I die"

They share another laugh, trying to conceal the swelling tears, thinking of their old team mate who lost her life to save theirs.

"Is that all you were gonna ask?"He asks her

"Yeah,we just wanted to make sure you were okay"She says

"We?"

Hiccup opened his bedroom door and there stood Jack and Elsa who sheepishly smiled.

Hiccup chuckled

"Let's go eat breakfast"
Hiccup walks to his door
"Oh, and Merry Christmas guys"

Elsa, Jack, Rapunzel, and Hiccup sat around their table eating their Christmas breakfast.

Elsa looked at the empty seat across hers, that was Merida's.

Jack places a hand on her shoulder.

"It's okay"He mouths

It was extremely quiet.

"Come on, guys. I know we all miss her, but it's Christmas!"Jack says

Everyone smiles.
They talk, tell jokes, laugh until it hurts and teased.

"Well, it's time for presents!"Rapunzel sang as she cleaned the table. The group gathered in the living room as they all got gifts with their name on it.

"Hey, how come I have four gifts?"Elsa asks
"There's only three of us"

"Hey, I only have three!"Jack exclaims

Rapunzel laughs when she sees that the fourth gift was from Santa Claus himself!

"Looks like Jack is on the naughty list!"They laugh

Jack pouts but joins in on the laughing.

"Hey! North gave me a new frying pan!"Rapunzel smiles

"He gave me a cloak!"Elsa laughs
"I've always wanted a cloak,how does he know these things"

"Duh, he's Santa"Rapunzel says

"Oh look! North gave me nothing!"Jack exclaims with fake amusement
"How did he know that I wanted that?"

They all laugh and Elsa falls to her side, much to Jack's annoyance.

Hiccup opens his gift and sees a letter. He looked baffled. North knew what everyone wanted, but Hiccup didn't ask for a letter. In fact, he didn't ask for anything.

"Hey Hicc, you okay?"Jack asks

"Yeah"He smiles and closes the box

"Anyway, Rapunzel, open my present"Elsa tells Rapunzel
"I know you like riddles so..."

Rapunzel nods and she opens the box.Her eyes shimmer and she squeals in excitement.

"A paintbrush?"She asks confused
"But...how does this relate to riddles?"

"Dip the paintbrush with a number one on it in water and you paint on any canvas. A riddle will appear and it will disappear when you paint the answer with brush number 2"Elsa explains

"REALLY?!"Rapunzel jumped up and down in excitement

"You're welcome"Elsa nods

"THANK YOU!"Rapunzel squeals

After opening gifts,eating cookies,and sharing laughs,the team went back to their rooms to enjoy their presents.
