As I continue to follow the trail of blood I notice that each drop grows smaller the further I progress. Which means that she has been able to slow the bleeding down on her own or else there simple isn't any more blood to be spilled. Which is just as deadly for a werewolf as it is for a human.
I shake the thought from my head. I won't allow myself to think of such things. The most important thing to do now is find her and I'll worry about the rest later. I focus on our link and growl in frustration as I am unable to reach her. Her body is in the building and yet she feels so far away. I have to reach her. She can't die. I have no idea what I would do with my life then. She is my sun, my very soul. Though she does not realise it I love her with all my heart. If she were to die, I would curl up in a corner and refuse to move until death came to greet me.
Her scent fills my senses as I travel down a corridor and I spot her lying not far from me, pale and limp. NO!! Before thinking, I shift back into my human form and rush towards her. Fear clenches my heart again as I touch her face. It is cold and pale and her lips are beginning to turn blue.
"Ester? ESTER?!? Wake up!" I shake her shoulders softly, willing her to open her beautiful blue eyes. She doesn't even react to my presence and my fear to grows. I press my hand to her neck softly, hoping to feel her pulse. I breathe a sigh of relief as I feel the heartbeat residing within her. It is faint but at least it is there.
"Oh my god! What happened?!?" I tilt my head to the side, only too see six pairs of eyes watching me with worried expressions. Domenic and five of Ester's friends; Lucas, Harley, Skylar, Starr and Alex. They were like their own mini pack, excluding Domenic, with Ester serving as their mini-alpha. Oh she would kill me if she heard me say that.
I meet every one of their gazes, trying and failing to hide my fear. "I don't know. I just followed the blood..." I trail off because I don't need to continue. It's clear where the trail of blood lead me. Domenic takes a step forward which causes my wolf to rush to the surface so quickly I am unable to stop it. I crouch in a protective stance over Ester, allowing a snarl of warning to escape my mouth. I feel fur start to sprout all over my body and my teeth lengthen as I snarl at those who could harm her.
Domenic retreats, his head bowed low in submission. I breathe through my nose a few times and close my eyes in order to force myself to relax. With an effort I manage to push the beast back down. My wolf snarls but backs of, giving me control of my body again. "Alpha. We have to help her. Her heart is beating so faintly we can hardly hear it. We must get her to the safe room and fetch the medic." His voice is quiet but firm.
I have to hold back a growl but he is right. I always encourage my pack to stand up for themselves and things that they believe in and, in a way, I am proud of him in that moment.
A soft whimper escapes from Harley. "There is so much blood. Will she be ok?"
I don't know. I just don't know. I don't say this out loud of course. "Yes. She will be fine. Lucas, Domenic. Help me carry her down to the medical room, that way if she awakes and looses control, she won't be able to get out."
The door is reinforced iron coated in silver and it has the capability to keep shifters in and out, whatever the given situation calls for at the time. I hope that with Ester, she will be unable to escape and hurt someone.
Well that's the idea anyway. I have no idea if it will work on her because she always seems to have greater strength than most other shifters I've seen. Most of the time the effect of silver has little to no effect on her but I'm hoping that the door will be enough. If it doesn't work...well I guess I'll cross that bridge if it comes to it.
"Harley, Starr. Fetch the medic from the city and bring him here. Tell him time is of the essence. Go in your wolf form, it will be quicker." In the blink of an eye two small she-wolves; one a light brown and the other a fawn colour, stand before me. They nod their heads before taking off down the corridor. "Skylar, Alex. Fetch any supplies we may need; bandages, bed sheets, food and anything else you can think of."
Each member of my pack spring into action. The girls run from the corridor to attend to their task while Domenic and Lucas step forwards, lifting Ester's unconscious body between them. I have to hold back another growl as I watch their hands on her.
As they lift her I let out a soft whimper. Where she lay only moments ago now resides a massive pool of blood. No wonder she is so pale with the amount of blood lying on the floor. I lower my body to the blood and take in a strong whiff. The awful stench fills my nostrils again and realisation dawns. "Quickly. We have to get her down there fast in order to stop the bleeding. She can't afford to loose any more blood. The doctor will be here soon and he will have to filter her blood." The pair look at me in confusion. The thought that I had before is definitely correct. I am sure of it. "Can't you smell it? That god awful stench. I think she has been poisoned."
