We walked through reception together, though Anna was practically dragging me with her. It seemed that my strength still wasn't at it's best, even after I had slept for half the day on her comfy office sofa. As her heels and mine clicked across the polished marble floor all of the Silver Corp employees looked up at us. They stared as we passed them, and it wasn't very discreetly. I peeked up at Anna to see whether she had noticed but she just started ahead towards the main entrance as if she were a guided blonde missile on target.
As they all stared I felt terribly self conscious, I understood that it was the end of all their shifts and that they weren't working because they were about to go home. But it just made me feel uncomfortable. Why were they staring so much?
I knew the reason almost as soon as I questioned it. Annastasia Silver was the reason. Of course she was undeniably and irresistibly gorgeous. If I were in their shoes I would probably be staring too. Anna had the unblemished beauty like one of those renaissance paintings. Perfectly sculptured, untouchable, almost mystical and other wordly.
As soon as I figured everyone was staring at Anna and not me I relaxed and focused on walking again. It sounds obvious but in my dehydrated weak state it was not as easy as it usually was. Before I could even ask Anna where her car was a black limo pulled up next to us. Instantly an elder man with a polite business smile jumped out of the drivers seat and opened the door for us. To my surprise Anna smiled politely at him then got inside the limo, pulling me with her. It was shocking to me that she smiled so politely to this old guy, from what I had seen of her so far she was not very affectionate, even with her own mother. The door shut behind us as we slid onto the spacious black leather backseat. My heart was in my mouth as Anna reached across me to do up my seatbelt. Her long mane of blonde was in my face, I couldn't even describe how she smelled, the only word that came to mind was divine. Her breast brushed across my arm as she lead over my body. I wanted to feel more of her, but just as I was about to move Anna was by my side again, close but not touching me.
The car engine roared to life so I tried to ignore the presence beside me and gazed out of the window, watching the nighttime rush of the city. The typical rain kept falling causing the unfortunate people on foot to run for shelter or shield themselves. I watched curiously, wondering if any of those people had done anything as embarrassing as I had today.
"Lauren." Anna said, instantly grabbing my attention. I turned around and faced her, she smiled at me apologetically. "I'm sorry about everyone staring at you earlier."
I laughed. "They weren't staring at me. That look of adoration? That was all for you."
Surprisingly Anna smirked at me. "None of them would dare to look at me like that." She inched a little closer to me. "But I will say, my employees know beauty when they see it."
I blushed at the indirect compliment but I felt an underlying sadness. Did this flawless human being think that she was not beautiful too? Did she never walk past a mirror? There are millions of people in the world that would pay an obscene amount of money to look like Anna. She was the dictionary definition of human perfection. She knew it too.
So why would non of her employees dare look at her that way?"If that is the case Miss Silver, then they were definitely looking at you." I said as smoothly as I could, trying not to trip over my words.
The blonde woman smiled at me broadly and even in the darkness of the limo I could see a pink tint to her cheeks. I had no idea of what I was doing. Trying to get a job? Making friends? Flirting? Seducing? I had no idea. And I didn't understand Anna either. She was taking me out to dinner but I was a candidate for a job at her Corporation. Surely that wasn't allowed?
As we drove it occured to me that we were heading towards Mayfair, on the richer side of London, and I knew instantly that we would be eating in one of the posh restaurants. The type of restaurants where I would have to save for two weeks to even afford one dish from the menu.
