Kait POV
**********
I managed to get into the room where Cory was held right before he passed out.
"You're too late. He's already dead." My ex husband said right before he pulled out a gun.
"I swear to god, Dave. If you pull that trigger..." I said, about to kill him.
"I think I won't. He mutilated enough. What I've done to him already will kill him." He said, putting the gun away.
"Do you think that doing this will make me take you back?"
"No, I don't, but it will get this jackass out of my way." he said.
I walked over and felt for a pulse on Cory's wrists and neck. Then, I walked up to my ex husband. If looks could kill, the look I gave him would cause him to drop dead on scene, but they didn't, so that was my job.
"You take everything I care about. I am sick and tired of everything that you've done. You made a huge mistake today. You'll soon regret it." I said.
"What are you going to do? Go all attack mode on me? Look what I did to your dear Cory. You don't stand a chance against me."
"You forgot what a Strigoi Viu can do." I said as I began my attack plan.
Cory POV
**********
I slipped back into consciousness to find Kait kicking my attacker's ass.
She kicked him in the gut, causing him to fly against the wall and hit his head pretty good. She walked over and broke his nose with a single swing and then brought her foot up and kicked him in the chest so he flew into a corner. With her finger nails, she clawed at his wrist and drank out most of his blood without changing him over. She took one look at me and began to cry.
I wished I could respond to her, but my jaw was broken so that I couldn't move it. I couldn't even reach out to hold her hand or comfort her in any way. It almost made me cry just watching her stand there. I closed my eyes because I couldn't stand to watch her mourn over me. Then I heard her walk away.
Kait POV
**********
I took one look at my fiancé and began to cry. He has multiple broken bones and multiple cuts and bruises. I wanted to heal him, but I knew my efforts would probably just end in failure. I couldn't stand to look at him in pain anymore, so I ran. I didn't stop for anyone or anything. Melanie tried to reason with me, but failed at any attempt. I knew what I was going to do and I wasn't going to let anyone stop me.
I ran until I hit the Rocky Mountains, twelve hours later. I had nothing but my phone and a credit card and managed to check into a hotel. I quickly wrote a small note explaining my motives for my actions and what I wanted everyone to do, then went to bed. That night, right after I went to sleep, I found myself pulled into a spirit dream. I opened my eyes to find Melanie standing in front of me nearly crying.
She ran up to me and gave me a big hug.
"Rosa! What are you thinking?! This is no solution to this!" She said, almost yelling.
"You can't talk me out of this, Melanie. Cory's dead. I saw him die. I would have healed him, but it was a lost cause. Now put me back to my sleep." I said, with a little more force than I should have.
"Rosa. This isn't a good idea. I refuse to let you go through with it. We'll find another way. If it makes you feel any better, Dave is currently in the hospital and will probably go to jail after he, well, after he might recover. You really hurt him good."
"I didn't meant hurt him. I didn't want to hurt anyone, I was mad and lashed out. That makes me feel a little better, but it doesn't change my mind." I said.
"Goddammit, Rosa! I don't swear, but you need to change your mind! This idea of yours is not okay! It'll never be okay! Everyone back at home missed you! Come home, Rosa!" she yelled.
"No. Now leave me alone."
"I see. You leave me one choice. Goodnight, Rosa." She said as I drifted back into a dreamless sleep.
I awoke the next morning, checked out of the hotel, and ran directly to the top of Mount Elbert in Colorado. I got there early enough so that I was the only one there. I looked down from the summit and rethought my motives. There was a possibility that Cory wast dead, but that possibility was slim to none. I heard Melanie and Cory's voices scream my name right after I jumped off of the cliff.
