"Listen, Remus, I know I shouldn't have told Sirius to back off but-"
"But what? But you're tired of hiding your feelings for him so you just blew him off?!"
"Remus!"
"We both know how you feel and we are both getting sick of it but that is no reason for us to have lost our best friend!"
"G-guys! I'm here too," Pettigrew reminded them.
"SHUT THE HELL UP, WORMTAIL!!" retorted Remus and James.
"James, I know it's difficult to have feelings for him, especially since he doesn't feel the same way, but you have to say something. Because as far as he knows you're straight, In love with Lily, and you hate Severus," said Remus. He had realized his temper had flared.
"I just want him to know that I am nooone of those things."
"Then freaking tell him. Sitting here and arguing with me isn't going to fix this."
We exchange a few looks. We sat in silence for probably five minutes before either of us said something.
"You're pretty smart for a Werewolf," I say through a giggle.
"Jesus Christ, Prongs, we're in public!"
"Hey, where's Peter?"
"Who cares?" retorts Remus.
"Christ, Moony, I know I made the werewolf joke but I didn't mean to make you angry," I joke.
"Dear, god," he replies. A few more minutes of silence pass by. We both giggle frequently throughout.
"Oi, I've got some studying to do, I'll see you at dinner?" I say, beginning to hand up.
"Sure, I'm going to go find Sirius," he says, "Hey, Prongs, keep ya chin up. He's still your friend."
"Thanks, Moony."
I return to the Gryffindor common room, my hair untidy and a half-assed smirk on my face. I stare at my quill, a puzzled look crosses my face as I realize it isn't mine, but one that Sirius lent me. I open my text book and unroll my parchment, quill ready, and begin my Defense Against the Dark Arts essay.
'Boggarts are shapeshifters that lurk in dark areas and have no definite form. They are able to possess objects and portray your greatest fear.' My first sentences would soon become my only sentences. I stared at my nearly blank parchment for roughly two hours until dinner. At which point some random fourth year would snap me out of it.
I pack all my stationery away and walk to dinner.
"Hey! Prongs!!!!" shouted Pettigrew.
"Shut up, Wormtail!" shouted Remus in return, "Hello, James."
"Hey guys," I sit down, "Where's uh, where's Padfoot?"
"Ya boyfriend? Iunno," said Pettigrew through a mouthful of food.
"Shut up, Wormtail!" shout Remus and I.
"I've not seen him since last night, Prongs," replied Remus, "Don't worry, I'm sure he's fine."
"I hope so, he has my favorite quill, I joke," what I wanted to say was that I was worried about him on a different level. Not just as his friend.
"Yeah, J-James, I'm sure he's okay without you!" says Pettigrew.
"Peter! Shut up!" we hear somebody shout from the Hufflepuff table.
"Oi, wanna fight?"
Remus slaps Peter on the back of the head, the sound echoes off of his already-receding hair.
"So, James, have you.... though about the thing?" asks Remus.
"Huh," I wake from daydreaming, "Oh, the - sirius - thing?"
"Yes. The important - sirius - thing."
"Yeah. No. I haven't had the time." I lie, knowing good and well that I spent two hours staring at blank parchment.
"Jesus, if you don't figure it out then I will."
"No! Moony, I promise it's fine! I am going to get it figured out, I just don't want to blow it."
"You can't blow anything or anybody if you don't start by telling him."
"REMUS!" I punch his arm.
"I'm not wrong!" he laughs hysterically.
a few minutes pass by and we notice each other and then collectively stare at Pettigrew gobbling down his stew. Remus nods in my direction.
Pettigrew brings his head up to take a drink of milk. He tilts his glass back. Remus reaches and taps the bottom of it, knocking the open glass upward and pouring milk down the front of Pettigrew.
"What the hell w-was that for?" shouted Pettigrew, spewing milk into another fifth year's food.
We all laugh until our stomachs hurt.
"I wish Sirius was here!" I say a little louder than intended. Remus and Peter stare at me and begin to laugh again.
I force out a clearly fake laugh and we go back to eating, my face red and embarrassed yet distraught.
I love you, Sirius Black.
