Raymond and Amanda lived about an hour and a half away from each other but Raymond walked it entirely by himself, rehearsing exactly what he wanted to say to Amanda. He thought of complimenting her hair or her eyes, but each word sounded like a phrase from a cheap romance movie.
The walk to Amanda's house passed like the blink of an eye, before he knew it he was knocking on the door of his high school crush. Knock, knock, knock, "one second Ray" Amanda's voice was like the sound of wind chimes, a delicate whisper. After 2 minutes of waiting in the warm descending sun. the door opened quickly, revealing a graceful blonde angel, her hair tied in rows falling neatly over her shoulders. She wore a red dress which extended down past her knee caps. Ray lost his breath for a moment, before Amanda giggled and spoke "I really don't look that nice this only took me 10 minutes." She sounded so innocent and sweet. "Your amazing" his words escaped his lips before his brain could process what he just said, and he didn't stop there. "Your beautiful, your stunning, I can't believe I'm going on a date with you" Amanda blushed at the wave of flattery and romantic phrases.
They started walking towards a park with a hilltop view of the village. As they spoke about school and what they liked about each other, Ray got closer to Amanda until they're hands slightly met. They went silent. Ray tucked his fingers into Amanda's and she down the same. They continued their journey hand in hand, silence, embracing each other's company. Eventually they arrived at the hill and stood for a moment. "You see that building over there," Raymond pointed to a grand building far in the distance. "I will buy that for you,it's the building which owns the rest of beaver county, I will make you the best of all the residents of beaver county." Ray had a good imagination for a 8 year old but he always kept his promises "I promise to give you everything"
The picnic lasted roughly 15 minutes and then they went to a large tree at the edge of the park.
"Bet I can climb to the top"
"No that's dangerous Ray"
"Don't worry Amanda I'll be careful"
Raymond started climbing the tree, searching constantly for foot holes and branches. "I did it, I'm at the top" Ray was pleased with himself but his excitement was short lived. The branch that was supporting his weight was light and weak, too weak.Snap
It snapped so quickly it almost disappeared from under him, his body became limp and his mind slowed down. They say that before you die your mind begins working at a slow rate, Rays mind was almost gone. He could feel a sharp pain as he fell through the air, the air around him seemed to squeeze him tightly causing his muscles to tighten into a painful state. Almost as quick as it started, Ray hit an electrical wire sending sparks flying through the air and Ray was tossed backwards. The ground ended his fall with a painful crack.
Rays vision darkened but he still saw Amanda sprinting towards him with a look of horror and sorrow.
That was the last he would ever see.
