Prologue

Orion stepped out of the shadows of a dim hospital hallway. His dark hair stuck in every direction and his cheeks were blotchy red and stained with tears. He stopped in front of an infant, hospital crib and gently lowered the small bundle he had been carrying. As if sensing the sudden lack of warmth, a tiny head full of wispy hair peeked out from the folds of the blanket. Orion let out a floaty sigh, relieved that the tiny child still slept peacefully. As he bent down to gently kiss his daughter's cheek, her silver eyes fluttered open. He gave her a sad smile as he straightened up getting ready to leave. The baby girl gave a tiny cry of protest as she realized her father's intention.

"Goodbye, my little butterfly. I hope they never find you," Orion said hoarsely. He turned on his heal and in an almost inaudible whisper, he said, "I love you, remember that." Orion walked out the door, forcing himself not to look back, as his daughter began wailing.

The infant cried the rest of the night until a very tired nurse found her the next morning.
