Chapter Three
When we got back to the beach house after that fun-filled day, we saw a red and black McLaren pull up in the driveway, beside my car. Whoever was inside, shut the engine off and slowly got out. I had a feeling who it was, but I chose to ignore it. While they stood at the front door, waiting for Alex, the guy who just arrived, to get off, I went straight inside the house, not wanting him to see me just yet. I climbed up the stairs and made my way to my room.
Once I made it in my room, I suddenly realized that all my stuff were still in the car along with Skylar's. I groaned and took a deep breath in, hoping they were all inside the house already, somewhere, where they wouldn't see me. I walked out of the room and when I got downstairs, everyone was still standing around the front door, welcoming Alex.
"Great. Just great." I rolled my eyes, hitting myself on the forehead for being stupid. I mean, why didn't I just bring my stuff in earlier when Skylar and I arrived?
Although, I was saved from having to go out and see him when Aubrey walked in the house. I grinned at her, but it quickly dropped when I heard what she said. "Hey, I know it may be awkward, but at least say hi or something. I'll get your bags for you while you go greet him." Argh!
"Why?" She just gave me a look and I sighed in defeat. "Fine, but I swear..." I trailed off. I unclenched my tightly clenched hands from my side and made my way to where the others were.
Emily saw me and her eyes asked me if I were really sure of what I was about to do. I just nodded and kept my face blank. As I neared him, he turned around from Liam, my brother, and faced me. Shock turned into hurt, anger, and betrayal. As those emotions flashed across his face, he quickly put on a straight face. I gulped, feeling myself about to burst into tears as he kept his intense gaze at me. Everyone around us suddenly disappeared and it was just the two of us left.
"Kennady" The way he said my name was filled with disgust and hatred that I almost leapt back in to the house and hid from him. Only I noticed his tone, though. To anybody else, it just sounded like a simple acknowledgement.
"A-Alex, it's nice to see you again." I stuttered, my voice cracking towards the end.
"I wish I could say the same." He muttered to himself, but I heard it loud and clear.
"Look--" As I was about to say something, we heard Savannah's voice call out to us, telling us to go inside. Alex didn't even say anything else as he just went in ahead, leaving me by myself.
Once he made it completely inside, I let the tears fall.
The next morning when I woke up, my eyes were heavy and sore from crying all night. Lack of sleep didn't help my situation, either. Last night, after he left me alone in the driveway, I quickly got my stuff and Skylar's, and ran up to my room. When Emily came to get me for dinner, I told her I was tired and wasn't hungry. Even though she knew I was lying, she let it go. I knew my brothers -related or not- and Savannah all thought it was just going to be uncomfortable and awkward for me to sit through dinner, in the same room as him as they knew how he and I's relationship ended, four years ago.
