Chapter 12

I read over half of the stack already and nothing interesting. Just bank papers, Bill papers, Doctor papers, future marriage papers for me. I sigh as I pick up another paper quickly skimming it before adding it to the second pile of papers I've already looked at. The next in the pile was and envelope, probably a bill. I flipped it over and it had my name written on it. '(Y/n) (l/n)' in cursive. I opened the envelope and took out the papers inside. I unfolded one the had a few paper clipped together. The first was was a scanned picture of my adoptive dad and his information the next was a picture of my adoptive mom and her information about where they lived and where they worked their age at the time, birthdate, everything. I picked up the next folded paper the was in the letter and unfolded it. I stated frantically reading the words.

'To (y/n),
If you are reading this I am thankful, if not I am sorry. Your mother and I am sorry for everything. We hoped this family would be able to take care of you before anything bad would happen. Your mother wanted to send this letter to you on your eighteenth birthday, so happy birthday dear. And hopefully this will all be done and over with and we can come and see you soon.

"Ugh why don't I have a cigarette when I need one" I run my fingers trough my hair. "Why did you take them from me Hanji?" I pulled my phone from my pocket and looked at the time and noticed my messages.

'6:28 PM"

'3 New Messages'

'2 Messages From Nick'

I sigh and look up at the ceiling closing my eyes.

~ Flash back ~

"(Y/n), (Y/n)!" I felt someone shaking me. "Hang in the sweetheart" my eyes open and I see my dad's face full of worry. He's holding me to his chest and we are outside. I see the sky.

"Eren! Leave mom we have to go!" I turn my head to the side and see a crying Eren with Mikasa holding his his hand pulling him along with us. My vision gets a bit blurry again but I keep my eyes open. I hear gun shots and more screaming and my dad starts running.

"Everyone to the tree house" he gets all the kids to the tree house and sets me down inside. "Mikasa hold down right here" he points to my stomach and she nods putting her hands on my stomach. And he disappeared.

"Dad" I try to get up but Mikasa is holding me down. I start crying and Eren comes over and holds my hand. I hear more gun shots and hot tear run down my face.

~ End of flashback ~

"What were they after?" I huffed. I folded up the letter and put it back in the envelope. "Next time" I shut the lights off. I'm surprised this placed still gets power, maybe it's just this room? With letter in hand I crawled back through the space and rolled out on the floor when I reached the other side. I closed it all up and headed back to my car. And my phone buzzed with another text.

(Y/n) I'm heading to your place now.

I tched. And tossed the letter on the passenger seat. I put my car in reverse and backed out of the driveway.

I parked in my parking spot and walked up the stairs to my apartment, to see a inpatient Nick waiting for me. "Where were you?"

"Out" I replied shoving my key into the lock.
