CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR.

Paul stood on the deck of a boat owned by Hellenic Ferries. The afternoon sun warmed his back as he looked at the island port in front of him. Quaint little villas in white were built into the hillside behind the port. The calm sea allowed Paul to take in the whole bay as the ferry chugged closer towards the landing pier. There were about a dozen boats, mainly fishing boats, tied up to the quay. He could see some restaurants and shops, a few closed for the winter.

Paul was one of thirty people who got off the boat and made their way towards the square in front of the shops. A few sea gulls squawked as they circled the ferry boat.

Luckily, in this country, English was a second language, and he asked where he could get a room to stay. Helpful locals directed Paul to a small hotel up an old side alleyway.

The first floor room was small and basic, with a bathroom at the end of the hallway.

Afterwards, he made his way to the nearest taverna, looked at the local drink selection and ordered ouzo and black olives.

Paul had arrived.
