Chapter 3: Nice timing, dude.
Blue sky. Shining sun. A quiet grassland. Crystal clear river. Fresh air. If I could only be in that place right now. I would run and roll and laugh.. and .. and take in a lot of fresh air. Which I really need right now.
"Stop touching that!" I squeled. Why isn't he listening to me?
"It's not that bad." He smiled at me.
"I don't appreciate you touching that so you better stop." He stroked it again and his smile widens. Irritation bubbled inside me.
"Why? Does it make you fee-"
"It's really creeping me out" . He tried to move the hamster in my face. 'Hachoo' "and I think I'll get an asthma attack, so please. Don't." Instead of getting the furry thing away from me, He held it in his hand and pushed it towards me,stopping an inch or two from my face. Ha. Hachoo! He now started to move it in a circling motion, my eyes following it. "Aargh! Stop it! I don't like those freaking hamsters on my face!" I said while waving my hands.
He pouts but returned the hamster to its rightful location. "You're no fun, Ray"
"Just because I don't like the idea of me getting asthma due to a furry animal doesn't say that I'm no fun" I crossed my arms. "Now I'm out of here." I surried out to the pet store's doors and took in lots and lots of fresh air.
Ugh. Why does he have to drag me up there. We were just suppose to walk to our own houses.
To my luck, Coby just found out that we have the same way home. Today, I haven't had a ride from Leila because she has something to do after school. Coby followed me so that's why we were walking together. We were supposed to walk to our own individual houses and pulling me into a pet store wasn't part of what we talked.
I started to continue my walk home. I need to hurry before he gets out of the store and-
"Hey,Raymond!" He sounded like he's running. "Wait up!" By now, he's beside me again. He chuckled. He probably sensed the radiating irritation of mine because we walked silently as we neared our subdivision.
"Look up." I looked at him with a confused look, there's still a bit of annoyance on my face. He is already looking at something in the sky. "What?"
"I said" His pace slowed down. "look up." I followed his gaze and my eyes fell on a huge cloud. It's almost sunset and the sky has a beaitiful shade of red orange.
"What am I looking at exactly?" Our eyes are still glued to the cloud.
"Mr. Kowitsky." His eyes were fixed to the cloud. I looked at him and raised an eyebrow. I looked back at the cloud and took in its form. Snap. I laughed. Hard. I stopped walking. It sure looks like Mr.Whatta Face. The cloud is a replica of Mr.Kowitsky's face , mustache and all. He looked at me and started laughing, too. I calmed myself slowly as I realized I laughed ungirly. Pshh.. Who cares? Whatever.
"That's awesome."
"Yeah. Totally." He said as he bring his fingers through his hair.
The rest of the walk was silent. Maybe he wasn't in the mood to tease me. We reached my street and that's when I bid goodbye to him and he did the same. I walked the short distance to my house as I hummed the song 'Keep Holding On' of Avril Lavigne. I got in my house just in time to hear the loud bang of my brother's slamming doors. He's on his own world again. For the last 4 years, it's been a normal occurrence in this house. Slamming doors. Thrashing plates. Flying figurines or plates. I sighed, feeling tired. I rushed to my room and threw myself face first on my bed after closing the door. Suddenly, I heard a knock on the door. "Time for supper, dear." My mom's voice passed through the wooden door.
I'm staring at the glow in the dark star pasted on the ceiling. I wish it's already week end so I can be with my aunt Kathy and her family. I grab my phoone then set the alarm. I need to sleep. I want to sleep. But I can't sleep. I rolled. Then rolled again. I just recalled the events today but one thing lingered in my find a little longer. I just laughed with Colby. Well that's a first. I get up and reached for my Biology book. I reviewed for a couple of minutes before I fell asleep.
*******
To say that I'm eating all girly and neatly is an utter understatement. I'm hungry and I am dreading for lunch the whole morning. Maybe that's why Colby started bullying me again.
"Woah. I know you are not a pretty girl, hell, you may not even be a girl, but seriously, don't be too hard on yourself. Don't wrap the idea completely." He took a big bite of his sandwich and I kicked his leg hard. That made him spit some of his oh so delicious sandwich. "Ow! What the hell, Ray!" He has the epic pained expression on his face that made me wanna laugh but I hold it in. I don't wanna spit my food.
"That's what you get for not respecting a woman." I said with a stuffed cheeks.I heard him muttering something along the lines of "what a stupid excuse of a girl" and "how violent of her". I smiled a little. Sitting with Colby at lunch is getting quite normal. Quite. That's not completely normal. He teasing me and I having a good comeback. Mostly my comebacks were kicks or slaps or punches. Yeah. But not that hard though, he'd die if I do that and I am not aspiring to be a murderess. Kidding. I might want to kill this jerk sitting across from me.
" Seriously, Ray. What are you? A human , a horse or something in between those two?" Another kick. On the other leg. "Ow! Stop it already! Hom am I going to walk now, my legs are broken due to this creature's merciless kicking? " He waved his hands at me while giving Leila, Sandra and the others at our table his pityful look.
"It's all your fault, man. Leave poor Yoomie alone so you won't get broken bones." Josh said. He, Terry and Chris sits with us now. Apparently, Colby became good friends with them then dragged thwm with us and they agreed willingly.
Colby narrowed his eyes and shoot daggers at me. I gave him the 'that's-what-you-get' look as I arched my eyebrow and smirked. See? They're at my side. You lose Colby.
Terry stood with his bowl of hot squash soup. Jenna Kings the brat suddenly came out of nowhere and bumped Terry hard. That made the bowl in his hands fly. Colby was about to stand. But a hot orangy liquid flowed down his hair to his face to his white shirt. I grinned at Terry. Oh nice timing, dude. I glanced at Jenna's direction and grinned at her back because she was still walking like nothing happened here due to her lack of sensitivity.
Everyone but me gasped and froze. Me? I laughed heartily. Gosh. That's priceless. Colby snapped his head at me and groaned.
"Ooh. Chill, dude. Don't be so hotheaded." I chuckled.
The bell rang. So perfect timing.
