Chapter 3

Emma's POV

"You don't hit girls!" Justin yelled, running up to us.

"Oh look it's boyfriend number 2. Jake sighed looking over to Justin. "It's our business, not yours. Stay out of it." Jake spat.

"It becomes my business when you get violent. You don't hit girls you dick." Justin's yelled right back. Before I knew what was happening, Justin punched Jake right in the face.

"Justin stop!" I yelled, but he ignored me.

They continued and Jake hit Justin in the nose. Hard. Justin hit the pavement, and his hand flew up to his nose. He pulled it away and when he saw blood, it's like something took over him. He didn't seem to notice my pleads for them to stop. Justin pushed Jake to the ground and got on too of him. He punched him in the jaw, nose, stomach, anywhere possible. Jake didn't have time to react, he just kept getting hit. Alright, enough is enough. I ran over to Justin and took him by the waist.

"Stop." I said quietly but demanding. Justin looked up at me and got off of Jake.

"Don't ever hit another woman again." Justin spat as Jake ran away. Jake definitely was going to end up with dozens of bruises. He was already bleeding in the face from how many times Justin hit him.

"You okay?" Justin said, bringing a hand up to my face, where Jake slapped me moments ago.

"Y-yeah." I stuttered. "The question is, are you okay?" I said, gesturing to nose.

He laughed. "Yeah, it's fine."

"No it's really not, here let me get you cleaned up. Lets go to my house, my moms a nurse so we have a lot of stuff there."

He nodded and we went to my car. After the drive, we went inside and straight up to my room. My parents can't know he's here.

"My parents would kill me if they found out you're here. They know you're a bad boy and would kill me if they knew about us." I stated, leading him into my room. I shut and locked the door.

"It's fine." He said chuckling.

"Here sit there," I said, clearing a space on my bed. He did as told and I went downstairs to get our first aid kit. My mom was sitting in the kitchen.

"What do you need that for?" She said. Oh crap.

"Uh, I got cut in my upper thigh from a desk at school and I need to use it." I said, trying to escape further questioning.

"I can do it if you want me too-" She started.

"No it's okay I got it. Don't worry. Be down for dinner." I cut her off and practically bolted up the steps. I went in my room and locked the door.

I walked over to Justin, still on the bed. He was in deep thought.

"Okay I'm here." I sat on the bed next to him. He smiled and looked up at me.

I opened the first aid box and got out the sanitary wipes. He winced as I cleaned up the blood on his nose. I kinda felt sorry for him. He did do all that for me.

After all the blood was gone, I sprayed peroxide and applied neosporin. It's not like his nose was broken. His damage was nothing compared to Jake's. After putting a bandage on it, I was done.

"There you go." I said, smiling.

"Thanks." He flashed a smile back.

"Don't thank me. I should be thanking you. You did get hurt just to protect me."

"It's no problem. Really. Guys shouldn't treat girls like that."

I smiled in response and climbed in farther in the bed, laying on the left side. Today was actually exhausting. Justin remained on the edge a few minutes before laying beside me on the right side. We sat there in a comfortable silence for awhile.

"I don't get it." I stated, confused.

"You don't get what?" Justin said, turning his body to face me. I did the same.

"Why you're doing all this for me now, when these past few years you've hated me."

"I never hated you." Justin said with no emotion. I absolutely hated that.

"Oh." Is all I could choke out.

We sat there a few minutes in more silence. I still don't understand it. Why is he just now being some kind of nice? I mean, he was still a jerk during class. And other times. But he's apologized? That's unusual. He's been acting really weird lately. I don't get it.

"Maybe I should go." He said, getting off the bed. I followed his lead.

"How are you going to leave?"

"Out that window." He said, pointing to the window opposite from my bedroom door.

"Justin, we're two stories up."

"Emma, what did I tell you? I know how to do things. Don't worry about it." He walked over to the window.

"Come here." He commanded and I obeyed. He opened the window and maneuvered himself so one leg was out of the window and one in. I stood directly beside him. He looked up at me with those chocolate brown eyes. I felt it very easy to get lost in them, and I don't quite know why.

What happened next was totally unreal.

He kissed me. Right on the lips.

I didn't know what to do. That took me by complete surprise. So I went with instinct and kissed him back. Slow, but tender. His lips were so soft, it was like he was barely kissing me. But it was so real. I couldn't mistake that. I could feel something, and I don't understand or comprehend why. I've never felt this way towards him.

Eventually he broke away and I felt weird. Did that really just happen?

"I had to do that. At least once." Justin said and before I had a chance to protest, he was climbing down the side of my house. I stood there shocked as I watched him walk down the street, and I wasn't really paying attention, but I swear he looked back and our eyes met. I couldn't help but smile while shutting my window. I went and sat on my bed, not knowing what to think.

"Emma! Food's ready!" My mom called from the bottom of the stairs, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I can't believe that just happened.
