CHAPTER 8
I smiled to myself as Justin and I sat next to each other, our hands together, on a bench next to the soccer game. I stared at him from my position, and I couldn't help but smile. He was focused on the game, his grey v- neck hanging down a little from his chest. He really made the right choice in what he was going to wear. Damn.
"Like what you see?" He chuckled. My face heated up and I knew I got caught.
"So you like soccer?" I asked, trying to convert the attention to a different subject. That and the fact that he was really into the game.
"Yeah of course." He said, his eyes returning to watch the kids run intently after the white and black patterned goal. "I used to play when I was a kid, back in Stratford."
"You used to live in Canada?" I was genuinely puzzled. Justin had always seemed like he grew up in California. Or maybe I just never thought about it.
He nodded. "My mom and I moved out here a few years ago. We wanted to get away from everything that used to be there, all the bad memories. That and the fact that I've heard California girls were hot." He smirked at me, raising his eyebrows. I giggled.
"You and your mom?"
"My dad left before I was born. He lived close to my mom and I, and I grew up with him as well. I've just always been closer with my mom. He still lives in Canada, and I still go visit him. I just know it's hard for my mom. They try and get along as much as possible, but I know that it's just for me. I just knew it would be best to move." He didn't go any further into it than that, and I didn't push him too. I definitely didn't want to ruin anything by upsetting him. I just nodded along as he talked, showing that I was listening.
For awhile we sat in silence. Then a guy off the team Justin was pulling for (I would know by his yells and cheers to them) ran and kicked a goal right before the game ended, giving them a one point lead.
Justin threw his arms up in the air, letting go of my hand. He yelled cheers as he ran up to the kids also cheering on the field. Justin gave the kid who scored a high five, and sat there talking to the kids for a few minutes. I smiled to myself, seeing how good he was with kids. They laughed at just about everything they did, and we're upset when he finally made his way over to me.
He was smiling as he stood before me, reaching for my hand. I gladly took it and returned his smile. We walked out of the park together, smiles plastered all over our faces. I decided to break the comfortable silence as we were walking on the sidewalk, hardly any cars going by.
"You're really good with kids." I said, laughing a bit when I remembered him making all the kids laugh with such ease. I would just make kids cry, I had no idea how he did it.
"I have a little brother and sister that I watch when I'm in Canada. And sometimes when they come visit." He said. I kicked at the rocks as we walked.
"Really? I would love to meet them." I smiled at him.
"Don't worry, they're just as cute as me." He smirked and I giggled. "Oh and you will."
"You promise?" I raised my eyebrows.
"About which part? Them being cute or you meeting them?" He flashed his amazingly white teeth at me. God help me.
"Both."
"Definitely." He squeezed my hand tighter. We walked the rest of the way to my house, laughing and joking, enjoying each other's company. When we finally got to my driveway, he stopped right at the edge. I turned to face him, finally letting go of our hands.
"Well here we are." I said, standing two steps away from him.
"Here we are." He nodded.
"Well, I had a great time today, all thanks to you." I smiled, pushing the hair out of my face to behind my ear.
"Me too." He grabbed my waist and pulled me to him, closing the space between us. "We'll have more days like this?" He said, more as a question than statement.
"I don't know will we?" I raised my eyebrows, wrapping my arms around his neck.
"Hmmmm...." He pretend thought for a moment. "Definitely." He smirked, leaning his head down to mine. I giggled, tilting my head up the rest of the way for our lips to meet. We moved in sync for a few seconds before I broke away. He kissed my cheek as I put my arms back to my side.
"Bye." I said, smiling. I started off to my front door, after seeing him smirk and wave before turning around back to the sidewalk.
I made it to my front door, still smiling. As I fiddled with my keys, I took one look back. Justin's eyes met with mine and he smiled. I blushed and finally unlocked my front door. I threw my keys on my dresser as I shut the door to my bedroom after running up the steps. I flung myself on the bed, face first.
Well, now I definitely know what I want to do. Today was just absolutely amazing. Just because of that stupid, attractive, brown haired boy that I was falling for.
