CHAPTER 10
The car ride was silent. I didn't want to open my mouth and say something that he would just get mad about. I kept stealing glances over to him. I could tell by the way he was holding himself up in the seat he was tense. Unsurprisingly. Everyone knows not to mess with him like that. I decided to take a chance. I can't stand to look at him like this.
"Justin..." I said, putting a hand on his arm. He pulled away from my touch, obviously in a concentrated state.
"If you're going to ask questions, save it for later. I'm not in the mood." He said, no emotion to his voice whatsoever. Gosh, I hate it when he does that.
"I wasn't. Just. I don't like seeing you like this. It's okay, don't be so tense." I said, trying to help. He shook away my hand. I let it fall back down into my lap.
"'Its okay'? Emma shut up you don't even know what I'm going through right now." Justin said, looking back at the road. Wow. Okay.
I stayed silent the rest of the way, Justin as well. Honestly I'm not surprised.
Justin stopped the car in the woods. I got out and shut the door behind me, and took a better look around. Directly in front of the car was a pretty steep hill leading down to a beautiful lake. Justin walked over beside me, and motioned me to follow him. I listened and walked behind him down the hill, almost slipping. If he wasn't there to catch me, I would've definitely fell on my face. He led me down through the mud and mush to a spot under the trees, right next to the lake. It was so secluded, but beautiful. You could see 95% of the lake from here. The trees covered it nicely, so nothing could come in. Bugs, the majority of rain, hardly anything could pass the think brush. God, this is beautiful.
He sat down at the base of a tree trunk, right in front of the water. I sat right next to him.
"Justin....this is...." I couldn't even find the words for it. It's honestly breathtaking.
"Beautiful?" He looked at me, smiling. Lord, I'm glad he could put everything aside for a few minutes.
"Yes. Exactly. How'd you find this place?" I questioned, moving his train of thought to something other than what happened earlier.
"Well I was on a boat one day on that lake, and I saw it. I figured it'd be cool to come and check it out." He said, pointing to the water. "Ever since then, I've came here to think. It really clears my head."
"This is really stunning. Thank you for bringing me here." I smiled at him.
"I've never brought anyone here before." He said, looking at a passing boat.
I honestly didn't have any words. The fact that he would share something like that with me......just the fact that he's starting to let me in is great. I'm so happy. I couldn't find any words to say, but our smiles made up for it.
I moved closer to Justin and he intertwined our fingers. He rubbed the back of my hand with his thumb. I couldn't help but smile.
After a few minutes of just talking and getting to know each other a little bit better, Justin was getting more relaxed. I could tell my his facial expressions and the grip on my hand. It was great sitting here with him, and I felt like I was truly where I needed to be. When I'm with him, I feel safe. Even with the fact that we haven't been together like this long, he still relaxed me. I don't know how or I don't know why, but it happened. And I can't deny it.
All of the sudden, Justin's phone went off. He released my hand and answered it, standing up and putting it to his ear. He helped me up as he first said his hello's.
"Why do you need me? I'm busy here." Justin said, turning back at me, with a frustrated look.
"......What could be so important that I have to stop what I'm doing and-" He said, getting more upset every passing second that he was on the phone.
"Whatever. This better be important if I'm just going to stop what I'm doing. If it's not I'm going to be more pissed off than I already am. Bye." He said, not waiting from a response on the other end. He put his phone back in his pocket and reached out for my hand.
"Who was that?" I asked, taking his hand. He led me back up the pathway to the hill.
"One of the guys in my crew. He says it's an emergency and I need to get back now. It's 'urgent'." He said, giving me a look that it probably was nothing. "It's so annoying that they do this. Way to piss me off...." He said, helping me up the hill. We walked the hundred steps back to the car, my hand in his once again.
"Do you want me to take you home or?" He said, coming closer to the car.
"No that's okay, it shouldn't take too long where you're going if it's not a real emergency." I said, sitting in the passenger side after Justin opened the door for me. He walked over to the driver seat and shut the door behind him. We buckled in, he started the car, and then we headed off.
"So what do you think it is?" I asked after awhile of silence. We were on the main highway now, about halfway back.
"I don't know. He wouldn't tell me anything whatsoever. Probably something stupid." He shook his head. We came up to a light. We were first in line, stuck at a red light. After about 5 minutes, traffic wasn't letting up any and we still didn't have a green light.
"Come on!" Justin yelled, hitting the steering wheel. "This is absolutely ridiculous! We've been sitting here for forever. Hurry the hell up!" He said to no one in particular. Finally after a few more seconds, the light turned green. We started moving, Justin pressing a little bit too hard on the gas. But what Justin didn't see and I did, was a moving truck headed towards us, regardless of their red light, from the opposite direction.
"JUSTIN GO FASTER GO!" I practically screamed from the passenger side. Justin yelled something I didn't understand back. I was too focused on the car barreling towards us, not even stopping.
The next part all came in slow motion. The moving truck hitting us, my head flying at crazy speeds and hitting the window to my right before the air bags could kick in, just with my seat belt holding me back from flying out of the seat. Justin had barely moved, only with his arm slamming against the steering wheel. Our screams filled the car and the minute after I hit my head, everything went black.
