I ran for the back door but wasn't fast enough when a body crashed into mine, bringing us down on the hard ground. "Help! Help!" I screamed while thrashing underneath the man. Turning to lie on my back, I faced him and began to beat any visible body part. "Get off me!" I yelled, now kicking. The man above me just laughed.
"Boys, looks like we got us a feisty one!" He chuckled, pulling me up with him. He gripped my arms too tight for a normal human. Hunters! I thrashed around in his arms causing him to laugh at my attempts to break free. "There's no use trying darling, boys go check the house." He nodded towards the house. The man that saved my life popped into my head. They could kill him, it would be them against him. Fear gripped my insides as I worried for his safety.
"No! No! Don't go in!" I shouted at the others. My small outburst caused them to stop and look back in confusion.
The man's grip behind me tightened as he turned me around to face him. "Why is that darling?" He waited for an answer. "Is there someone else inside that we need to know about?" He questioned me. I shook my head no, too afraid he would catch my lie if I spoke it out loud. He smiled a nasty smile. "Boys we have company inside. Kill on sight." Panic is what I felt as he spoke those words.
"No, I swear! Ther-there is someone inside but it's a-a terrible hideous creature! It killed my friends!" A planned had formed in my head and even if I didn't make it away from these men I would make sure the man inside did. "Please don't go inside, it will kill you!" I pleaded. The men looked at me and then back at man behind me, I'm guessing he's the leader.
"We can take on one measly displacer." One of the men informed me.
"There's not just one! There's three." I said worriedly.
"Why should we believe a word you say?" The leader said putting a knife to my throat. "When you first saw us you tried to run, you're hiding something, aren't you girl?" He added more pressure to the knife, making me wince in pain.
"I thought you were one, a displacer, I mean." I whimpered, feeling the knife dig into my skin when I talked. "I swear I'm not hiding anything."
"Boys you heard my orders, go check the house out." He barked.
"But Mitch, what if she's telling the truth?"
"You heard me, now go!" He shouted. For unknown reasons I felt sick to my stomach as I watched the men make their way inside. "If you lied I will kill you." He spat, pulling my hair back causing the blade to barely nick my skin. Tears sat on my eyelids but still I refused to release them.
We stood there for what seemed like hours waiting for his men. The night got colder as it did dark. Even wearing a jacket, the cold pierced my skin and I began to shiver. "How long does it take to search a freaking house?" I rudely asked. "It's cold and I have to pee."
"Shut up." He demanded. "We've only been out here for five minutes." I huffed and shifted my weight to one hip, his hand tightened on my arm roughly, making me pull back in pain.
"What the crap? Let go of me." I pulled my arm from his grasp. "That hurt and all I did was shift my weight. Lighten up." I growled, rubbing my sore arm. He glared at me but kept his hands to himself. I peered at him from the corner of my eye. He stood there stiff, examining the yard and everything in it. "Hey what's that?" I pointed to his right. He turned around to see what I was pointing at and I took the opportunity to run to the house. "Sucker!" I yelled as I dashed through the back door, locking him out.
He began to bang on it and curse at me. Childishly, I stuck my tongue out at him and then ran off to find the man I was worried for. I ran down the hall and to the kitchen, knowing it was the last place I saw the man. I busted through the door only to find the other men laying lifelessly on top of the dead bodies of my friends and the displacers. "Guy?" I called out. No answer or noise could be heard so I shrugged. Seeing one of the guns I dropped earlier, I picked it up. "Hello is anyone here?" I called out once again, bending down just to make sure the men where dead.
