My eyes can't seem to stop wandering to observe Michael, and I don't understand why. I mean he's extremely attractive, but looks have never drawn my attention. I nearly miss the bell ringing to dismiss me from English and quickly begin packing my stuff away to avoid another awkward encounter with Michael, but it seems fate decides to entice my curiosity when I drop my textbook onto my foot. "Let me get that for you," Michael says politely as he squats grabbing the book. I blush saying, "Thank you, Michael." "You're very welcome," he smiles as his fingers brush against mine sending butterfly to swarm in my stomach and my heart to think I had just finished a marathon. I pull my hand away with my eyes wide quickly retreating to my next class.
"Luna," Isaac smoothly falls into step with me, "What class do you have?" "Advanced Psych," I say glancing at him before turning the corner with him smiling. He chuckles, "I have that class." "I know you can smell my emotions in the air, but refrain from laughing at me," I narrow my eyes at Isaac, "I may seem sweet and innocent, but my eyes are red if that gives you any indication not to mess with me or my sisters." "What about your brother," he asks raising an eyebrow curiously. I chuckle, "His eyes are red too." Isaac goes quiet as we walk into class, and someone jumps at me causing me to flip them over my shoulder slamming them on the cold floor. I press my forearm against his throat with my fist raised, and the man coughs trying to get air, "It's... A... Fight.. O-or.... Flight.. Test." "Sorry," I say releasing him and get to my feet. He rubs his throat, "It's alright, but I'm going to the nurse's office." "Way to go, Luna," Allison says passing Isaac, "Mr. Fennawald didn't do anything wrong. How could you do that?" "I didn't do anything wrong. For me, it's fight not flight, and I can't just turn that off. I've gone through so much that you can't even imagine going through," I raise my voice then storm out of the classroom.
"I know it was wrong. Dad, I didn't mean to run," I cry out, "Please don't leave me." "You're too weak to be a part of my pack, Luna. I can't have you ruining my perfect pack," my biological father says turning his back to me, "I'll come back for you when you're ready." "I killed that alpha for you, dad. I wanted to make you proud," I growl, and he glances over his shoulder. He flatly states, "It wasn't enough." I fall to my knees roaring as he walks away leaving me behind with two humans. Elizabeth, my adoptive mom places her hand on my shoulder, and I rise to my feet and shrug off her hand from my shoulder growling, "You're not my mum. You'll never be my mum."
I take deep breaths trying to release the vice grip on my heart and squeeze my eyes shut, but a hand caresses my cheek softly making my eyes flutter open. Michael stares into my eyes asking in a whisper, "Are you okay, Luna?" "Y-yeah," I blush slightly, his smile seems to make the tightness in my chest vanish releasing the butterflies to flutter within my stomach again. "I-I-I have to go," I panic rushing outside relishing the fresh air. "Why am I so drawn to him," I growl at myself, and a delicate hand rests on my shoulder. Ethan asks, "Are you okay, Luna?" All I do is nod standing up straight and glance at him before walking to the car where only one of my siblings are.
"Selene, where are Mel and Luke," I run my fingers through my hair, and she smiles brightly lifting a weight off my chest. I smile as she says, "We got invited to Scott's. He said you should remember how to get there." "I remember," I say unlock the doors getting in, and Selene rests her head on my shoulder, "Why don't you tell me how your first day was, love?" "There was this really cute girl in my five of classes, and she is really funny and loves art as much as I do," she says giggling and looks up at me, "Maybe you'll give her your blessing." "I'll give my blessing if she treats you right and makes you happy, Selene. That's all that matters to me," I peck the top of her head.
I park by the curb and get out of the car with my phone in hand, and a presence can be felt behind me, but I remain calm. My heart is a thundering drum, and his voice is a beautiful symphony to my ears, "Hello again, Luna." "Hi, Michael," I say more calmly than I thought I was capable of. Scott walks outside smiling, "You guys made it. Come on inside." I bite my tongue and walk past Scott sitting next Allison and Lydia. I whisper in Lydia's ear, "Why did you guys invite Michael?" "Because how deeply you react around him," Scott whispers going into the kitchen before asking everyone, "Are any of you thirsty?" I get up going into the kitchen, and Scott is trying to get all ten water bottles. I laugh grabbing five of the bottles and go to hand each of my siblings one then the extra to Michael who smiles, "Thank you, beautiful." I instantly feel the heat creep into my cheeks as my breath slightly hitches, and I nod before taking my seat. "See," Scott mumbles causing my eyes to quickly glare at him.
