CHAPTER 3

"Trinity wake up! Fire! Trinity there's a fire! Wake up!"... Flames engulfed the house... Hannah... tripped on something and fell... "Trinity, Hannah!"... Fire reached into the family room... flames zipped my arm and burned me... mother's body turned into ashes...

I woke up sweaty and out of breath, and I was screaming my heart out, wrecking my frail voice. "Trinity! What happened!" Amelia called as she ran into my room. When she sat by my bed, I started to cry into her chest, soaking her light blue dress. She had other uniforms, but this was my favorite color on her. She knew what happened and wiped my tears away carefully. The burns on my face started to feel like they were still burning once the tears hit them. I had to stop crying. My new mirror I had received from the hospital for my birthday was hanging on the wall, and all I could see was my ugly face, covered with bloody marks, scars, and tears.

"Get away from me Amelia, please."  I croaked out, "and please only visit when you have to." Amelia looked at my face, into my eyes, and tried to see why I was acting like this. But even so, she got up, after planting a slight kiss on my forehead, and walked out, carrying the box of games she brought with her.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

March 28. Three months before, I was brought to the hospital, and a month after I came, I got rid of Amelia, and I turned into a gloomy, depressed child. The photo of my family was tucked in my bag, along with my other gifts and clothes. I couldn't bear to look at them. Day after day, I got shots, therapy, burn treatments, everything. The routine was too similar, and it was gloomy and dark like me. The nightmares kept coming back, and I was afraid to sleep. Nothing could help me, not even me could get me out of my funk.

Nobody in this place ever told me anything, and I was starting to get angry and more insane. I swear, that hospital was driving me crazy! Questions kept bubbling in my brain, but nobody would answer. I would ask something, and the aid or whoever was like, "I'm going to take your blood pressure now," or something totally off topic. I guess they didn't want to answer the questions I was asking. Some questions were pretty emotional like: Who is dead in my family? Where will I go after my visit is over? Who is my guardian? Does my family have a funeral? But some questions were stupid and I knew it, but I don't really feel like explaining them.

That day, I was sitting in my bed (as usual), thinking about darkness (as usual), and being a moody teenager (as usual), when Amelia came in looking excited and jumpy. "Great news, Trinity! Your treatment's done!" I was shocked. My treatment done?!?!?! I have nowhere to go! "Where do you expect me to go, Amelia? Oz?" I snorted sarcastically, but she ignored it anyway. "Guess what else I heard? A family is coming today to see you, they heard about the fire!" she squealed, and gave me a box. Now I was scared. People coming? To see me? The box was wrapped in light blue paper, with a tag that said, 'To: Trinity, From: Amelia' in very pretty handwriting. "Thank you Amelia." I said blandly, opening the paper carefully so I wouldn't get a paper cut. Inside there was a small tube of lip gloss and a hair bow.

"I thought you would like to wear it when they come to see you," Amelia whispered into my ear. I nodded and got up. At least the bow was black.
