"WHAT THE HELL?! YOU CAN'T SWEEP THE LIVING ROOM RIGHT?!" The mother yelled at her child, having been stressed all day. She swiftly took the broom from the child's hands and swept it herself. "Do you as how easy this is?" She had calmed down a bit, realizing she had yelled. "I'm sorry Sam... Mommy has just been having a bad day." The child nodded, keeping quiet despite being hurt. She quickly finished sweeping the room then ushered the child out, needing to mop the room to clean it further. The child's brother had left earlier to go to the public library and the step father had left to the store to buy food for their guests. The child thought to themself after closing the door and putting on music to drown out the sounds of the house. "If I would leave... They'd be better off... Less people to feed... Less people to yell at... Less people to mess up..." The child wiped a few tears from their face. "I'll go when they're sleeping... I've lost too much to stay anyways..." And with that, the child started packing and hiding. They emptied their backpack and filled it with clothes, food, and water. They brought their phone, a charger, and a few notebooks with pencils to draw. And soon came the night. The child slept in the living room, the bedroom not having the space. They checked on their family to see if they were truly asleep. "Good bye..." The child held back tears. Even if they wanted to leave, they still loved their family, even if it didn't seem that the family loved them. "Maybe I'll see you up ahead... With some wings... And a halo..." The child gave a weak smile to them before gathering what they packed and grabbing the blanket. "This... is probably the last time I see you guys..." The child finally opened the door, locking it once outside and walked off. Sleep would not able to catch them that night. The child wandered around aimlessly, going to what they would think no one would look. Mt. Ebott. Legends say that those who climb the mountain never return. And the child wanted nothing more than to never return. They fought back tears, resisted looking back, and tried their best to forget all the good times they had with their family. "It's... for their good... They'll be better off without me..." The child reached a cave in Mt. Ebott. The child checked their phone for the time. 12:30 pm. Sleep finally managed to catch the child, forcing them to rest in the cave.
6:00 am
The child woke to a ringing sound. They instinctively picked it up and looked to see if they new the number. "Mom." The child put down the phone and ignored the non-stop buzzing. "Does she really care...?" The child noticed the buzzing stop, then heard a *ding* from their phone. They checked it once more and saw a message from her. "Sam, why the hell did you take our food?!" It seems she didn't care if he left, only that he took the food. They turned off their phone once more, then went back to sleep. "I need to take off that alarm..."
8:30
The child slowly awoke from their slumber and rolled to the side of the cave."Nngh..." Sam sleepily stood up, swaying back and force. "I've slept on the floor before, but this was just plain out painful..." They rubbed their head as they dusted off the blanket. "Should I eat... I'm hungry but I don't have much food..." They stored the blanket while thinking whether or not to eat. "How long would I last if I eat like I normally do?" A quick glance at the contents of the backpacks showed they'd have about a week. "Ugh... Might as well go find something to eat..." The child slipped on their backpacks and continued onward into the dark cavern. "It's way darker than I expected it to be..." Even with their eyes adjusted, they could barely even see the edges of the cave. Quickly fumbling in their pocket, they pulled out their phone and turned on the flashlight. In front of the child was a small frail bug, but it had a face and didn't look like anything familiar. "What the..." Before they could react in any way, the creature ran off into the depths of the cavern. "H-Hey wait!" They ran in its direction, pulling out their drawing book and pencils while struggling to keep the flashlight steady. "Come on, where are you?" The cavern had become slightly brighter. To save battery, the child turned off their flashlight and put it away. Seeing the creature, they drew closer to them. "Come on, please stay. I just want to draw you." The creature stood still above a dark hole. The child stood at the edge of the hole, not noticing it as they continued to draw. "Just a bit more..." Sam looked up at the creature, seeing it had backed up a bit. "Come on little guy. Don't back aw-" The child took a step forward to finish drawing, sending them plummeting into the hole. "AHHH!!!" They stared upwards at the creature, watching it become smaller and smaller as they fell further and further. The child thought, "This is the end... Only a miracle can save me... At least it's better than life with them..." Sam descended into the darkness below.
