"Hey mom, I'm home." I yelled out after stepping into the house. I dumped my bag on the nearest couch to me and walked into the kitchen where I'd assume my mom would be as the house was filled with amazing aroma of freshly baked bread. She turned around and gave me a small smile and in that instant i knew she had something important to talk to me about.
"Riley dear..." she trailed off avoiding meeting my eyes. She was looking at everything but me and she seemed pretty hesitant to tell me about whatever she is about to. I frowned and decided to speak up first, "If it's about dad, I know. I've seen it coming, I mean anyone could've seen that it's best for you both to split for the mean time and I won't lie that I'm okay with all this and that I won't be missing dad because I sure as hell do and I'll stay with you instead of dad if that's what you're worried me throwing a fit over that, I won't and also about the.." she stopped my rambling and took my hand in hers. I was starting to worry even more as the look in her eyes looked rather troubled as if there's something I she's dreading to tell.
I looked at her expectantly the whole time waiting for her to break it out to me. "So ... I've been meaning to tell you earlier but it never felt like the right time with so much going on with your dad and all. Well, it can't be delayed any further and I'm hoping you'll patiently listen to what I have to say and hopefully it won't come out as too much of a shock but Charles ... my ... boyfriend had just recently got transferred by his boss to the police headquarters near our neighbourhood. I was thinking, since your dad will no longer be living with us, we'll have 2 empty rooms and I'm planning to ask if he'd like to move in with us." She finished, watching my reaction. I stared at her wide-eyed, unable to digest everything she just said. My brain seemed to stop functioning. How could she invite some stranger family to live with us right after my dad, her husband just filed a divorce and stormed out on her. I get it that it was bound to happen but everything is just moving on too quickly for my liking. Am I the only one who's reluctantly holding onto something that can't possibly happen? How could she bring this up to her daughter who probably won' receive and feel love and care from both parents? My blood started to boil as my thoughts and emotions got to me. I could feel my body trembling and my eyes were beginning to sting. I opened my mouth to object but no voice came out. I couldn't handle this. I got up abruptly and turned away from her. I heard her sigh but I ignored it then decided to lock myself in my room for the rest of the weekend.
Apart from going to the bathroom and sneaking out for meals whenever my mom is out, yes I stayed in my cave the rest of the week.
