STELLA
" Nervous?" I asked with a giggle.
"Just a bit," Alec said, his voice a bit shaky. I smiled at him, and reached over the table to take his hand in mine.
We were having breakfast in his kitchen, because the dining room was not properly set up yet. He had jitters, and called me to come over last night. I agreed, and he welcomed me with hot chocolate and pancakes with fruit.
"Are you ready to go?" I question, finishing up the last of the warm chocolate drink.
"As ready as I'll ever be," he replies. I slip my boots on.
"You can hold my hand if you're scared," I joked, outstretching my hand to him. He immediately grasped it, lacing his fingers with mine.
We heard a camera click, and saw that it was his mom. "My baby's first day of school," she sighed.
Alec rolled his eyes. "No, mom."
"Come on, baby, please?" I teased him.
Alec glared at me, then turned to his mother, giving her one of his smiles that left my heart in a pool of warmth. Why does he have to be so gorgeous?!
"Time to go," I inform Aunt Donna. She smiled, and gave us a wave as we shut the door. Halfway down the sidewalk, I realized Alec was still grasping my hand.
"Sorry," he mumbled, turning red.
"Its fine," I say, and then the walk goes silent. It isn't until we see the school Alec grabs my hand again.
"I'm mortified," he says.
"Don't be," I encourage. I look at him and smile. "You'll be fine."
"Can I have something for good luck?" He pleads, and looks me in the eye. I chew my lip and hesitate for a moment. Suddenly, I feel an adrenaline rush, my heart starts racing, I feel light headed and the world starts racing. At that moment, I realize what I'm going to do. I take Alec's face in my free hand, and he makes a fish face. I laugh at him, lean in, and kiss his cheek.
"Good luck," I whisper into his ear. I couldn't have said it any louder even if I wanted to. My throat constricted over the smallest gesture. Why does Alec make me feel this way? The look on his face is priceless. His eyes have widened, and his cheeks turn a darker shade of red than they already are. He opens his mouth and closes it a few times, then his gorgeous smirk returns to his face, my heart to pick up its pace again. Oh god, what is he going to do?
"Thanks," he mummers as he brushes away my hair and kisses my forehead.
I'm flushed, and my heart is racing at an alarmingly fast rate. "C'mon, we're going to be late." I insist, refusing to make eye contact with him. I chance a furtive glance at him, and he's got a bemused smile plastered onto his perfectly sculpted face. I chew my lip and turn away.
....
"Hello, Mrs... Stevenson!" Alec greeted, reading the name card on the school secretary's desk.
"And who are you?" She asks, melodramatically flustered.
"I'm Alec Smith, the new student," he replies, giving her a smile. From where I'm standing, I can see his dimple. I bite my lip and then begin to think that suddenly my fingers are a lot more interesting.
"Lovely!" She squeals. "And it seems that you've made a new friend?"
"I've known her for a bit, actually," he replies, wrapping an arm around me. Mrs. Stevenson's eyes light up.
