2008

September seemed to come more quickly that year; the young princess was both dreading and excited to return to school for her second-to-last year of secondary school. She attended Wellington College near Berskshire. It was a distinguished school and Caroline it. Though it kept her away from her family for several months at a time, family members occasionally visited. She was not lonely, however; Caroline had friends in her year. But that is not to say that she was a social butterfly. No, Caroline had always kept to herself; even her school friends were just that—school friends.

So far, Caroline had exceled in her studies. She took Art, Maths, French, Spanish, Sciences, English, Politics, and History. That year, she was continuing with Art, French, Spanish, and Politics for her A-Levels. Caroline hoped to attend the top-ranked and extremely selective University of Cambridge after A-Levels.

The first week of term was coming to an end as Caroline sat a table with her friends for lunch. The other four—Julia, David, Margie, and Cedric—greeted Caroline as she claimed her seat amongst them. The group talked about their respective summers and how their classes seemed so far. Caroline laughed when David teased Julia; the two were sweethearts.

"Hey, Mountbatten!" A voice yelled across the din of the cafeteria.

Caroline stilled at the familiar voice. Conversations in the room trailed off in anticipation. Margie placed a hand over Caroline's in comfort.

The voice yelled again, footsteps now approaching the table where the princess sat. "I'm talking to you, Mountbatten!"

Margie and Julia gasped as a hand pushed Caroline's shoulder. The newcomer traveled to the side of the table and banged her hands down, intent on welcoming Caroline to the new term. Caroline jumped at the noise and deftly stared at the table. She wasn't going to give Natalie Churchill the satisfaction.

Yes, that Churchill. Natalie Churchill was the great-granddaughter of the famous Winston Churchill and thought that the world revolved around her. She was Caroline's nightmare at school; intent on making her life a living hell since day one when they started Wellington at 13. The first year, Natalie teased Caroline for the fact that the princess was enrolled as "Caroline Mountbatten" and not "Caroline Wales". Therefore, Prince Charles obviously wanted nothing to do with his daughter and no one loved her.

Though Caroline knew that was not true, after hearing it said to you every day, one wonders if it is true. This was the reason behind her brothers' first visit to Wellington; to assure her that Dad did love her and the only reason she was registered as "Caroline Mountbatten" was because Grandpa filled out the form before Dad could.

The next year Natalie belittled Caroline's body. As a 14-year-old and growing into herself, Caroline suffered from lack of self-esteem. This had been the reason behind Aunt Sophie's and Catherine's first visit to Wellington. The ladies tried to show Caroline how beautiful and special she was.

Finally, last year Natalie yet again discovered a new way to bully Caroline. The girl added her insults from previous years to hurtful comments about Caroline's brothers wanting to get rid of her; and, worst of all, vile comments about Princess Diana and Caroline's lack of having a mother. This had been the reason behind not only Will, Harry, Aunt Sophie coming, but also Dad and Grandpa. They had ordered a meeting with the headmaster for immediate action against the bullying. As a result, Natalie had been suspended for the second half of term.

Caroline should have known that nothing would change this year.

"Piss off, Churchill," Cedric spat, glaring daggers at the girl.
