Chapter 4

Moonlight on the Thames

The evening sunlight streamed through the windows of Buckingham Palace. The cooks and servants were hard at work in the kitchen preparing for supper and a certain special meal. But, make haste to keep quiet. Not even the Queen knows of this special meal—the preparation came under orders from the Countess of Wessex. A scream and nervous laughter was heard through the halls. The young Princess of Wales was hidden in her room with Sophie and Catherine. The Queen amusedly watched as Philip sat a chair in the foyer.

A bell was rung. The princess' room turned silent.

Crash.

Harry fell through a door at the other end of the foyer as Will followed. They quickly righted themselves and menacingly stood in the middle of the room. A servant walked in. He briefly paused at the statues of Will and Harry.

He cleared his throat as Philippos stuck his head out, "Sirs, His Imperial and Royal Highness Prince Joachim."

The man gestured behind him and Grandpa, Will, and Harry watched as Joachim came in. The newcomer wore a simple button-up and khakis. His hand ran through his blonde curls when he saw William and Harry. A bouquet of flowers was gripped in his other hand.

"I hear you're taking my baby sister on a date, Joachim," Will stated, crossing his arms.

"Yes. With your aunt's help, I decided to take Caroline to Windsor Castle," Joachim replied.

Harry strode over to stand in front of Joachim. Though merely an inch shorter than the red-haired prince, Joachim shrunk at the powerful presence.

"Yeah, yeah. Let's get to the important stuff here. Ground rules," Harry declared and Grandpa gave a quiet chuckle.

"Number one: Your hands stay to yourself. Number two: Your lips stay away from sister. Number three: You don't get to have any contact with my sister. Got it?" Harry rattled off.

Philippos cheekily injected, "Hey, mate. What if he wants to push himself into beau—"

"NO!" Will and Harry roared as Grandpa slapped his godson upside the head.

A very embarrassed Joachim was saved from responding with the arrival of Sophie, a woven basket in her hand.

She kindly smiled at Joachim, handing him the basket. She said, "Caroline should be down in a minute, honey."

Dad, Camilla, and Grammy joined the group. Catherine appeared at the top of the stairs beaming. Then, Joachim lost the ability to breath. Caroline was walking down the stairs in a summer dress. To him.

Caroline's head were filled with thoughts along the same line. Joachim looked so handsome and he was waiting for her.

"Bonsoir, Caroline. These are for you," Joachim handed Caroline the bouquet.

The young princess glowed as she smelt her flowers. "Merci, Joachim." She grabbed onto Joachim's free hand and handed her flowers to Aunt Sophie. "Where are we going?"

The Belgian prince merely smiled at her question. Will stepped forward and said, "Take care of my babygirl."

Joachim nodded and the duo walked out the door. Just before the doors were closed, Harry yelled, "The rules!" and then, "Ow, Aunt Sophie!"

A servant held the car door open; Joe and the Belgian guard were already in the car behind it. Joachim handed the basket to a different servant and helped Caroline into the car. He then joined her from the other side.
