My mind is on Adelaide, so I do not even see the man approach. All of sudden, there he was!

Wait a minute, I think to myself. I know this man! This was that strange man I saw talking to another white man when I first arrived, back in August! Though he no longer carried the spear on his back, as I remember it, he did still alarm me quite a bit.

"Who are you?" I practically am shouting. "What do you want with me?" For I had not a clue what he intended to do to me, though I had heard rumors about these savages doing such things as human sacrifices, the bloody monsters. (A/N: Not how I personally feel, just trying to keep it historically accurate to what an inexperienced young white man would think).

He answered slowly, as if trying not to frighten me too much. "My name is Chea Sequah, I am looking to help you. You look like you need it." He spoke excellent English, I noticed. Seeing the position I was in, I realized that I was in no position to turn down his offer of help. I had only the clothes on my back and the money that I took, so I did not have a weapon with me. But neither did he, so I had no reason to worry, right?

Nonetheless, I was still wary about accepting his help, but he seemed friendly enough. Also, the guard at the port had trusted him. I hesitantly agreed to his offer of help.

"Here, you look as though you've been wandering for days," he remarked with a smile, as he handed me a small, clay canteen of water. I acknowledged my thanks and took it gratefully.

"Where are you headed?" He asked me. It took a minute for me to register what he had said.

"Up north, trying to get to a port so I can head back to England," I finally answered, watching his face become puzzled.

"Thought I saw you at the Rhode Island port? Why didn't you just leave then and there?" He questioned me. I didn't want to answer, so instead I just inquired on whether he could take me somewhere useful, or if he just wanted to stand here and talk.

"Follow me, I can take you to the next port up north." Thank the Lord, he didn't pester me further.

We walked for some time, until we came upon a river. Along the way we had talked, for the trip was long. I told him about Adelaide, and my plans to go see her. In return, he told me about his family, and how he spoke English so well. As it turns out, he has been the main negotiator between his tribe and my people.

"Follow this river downstream and it will bring you to the nearest bay port," he instructed me. I thanked him over many times, then promised that if I should ever return then I shall visit him. Of course! He was quite nice.

Oddly, I found myself wishing for his presence again very soon after we parted ways. It was quite strange, as I was going to see Adelaide again! Therefore I should be excited. But I was also saddened by his leaving, which I shouldn't, for I definitely could never be friends with a savage!

I used the money that I had stolen to buy a ticket back to England. A ship had just dropped some people off, and would be heading back tonight. I decided to wait in a nearby shop and get something to eat. This is where I write you from now. Soon I will board the ship and sail right back to you, Adelaide! Oh, how excited I am!
